There are six buildings in a colony i.e. A, B, C, D, E, F, they all are of different heights. There is no building which is situated in west of building A, D, and E. Tallest building is 12m north of building B. Building C is 5m east of building D. Shortest building is north west of building D. Building C is not the tallest. Building D is situated somewhere in between building E and B vertically. Building D is taller than both E and F. Building F is 3rd tallest building among all and is 6m west of 3rd shortest building.

  1. What is the shortest distance between building B and C?

(a) 15m

(b) 20m

(c) 13m

(d) 18m

(e) None of these

Answer & Explanation
Ans. c

Exp. There can be two possibilities. D or A can be the tallest building.

Case-1- When A is the tallest building, D is second the tallest building and the shortest building is among B, C and E. It is given that the shortest building is in north-west of D and D is situated somewhere in between building E and B vertically. Building C is 5m east of building D so No building among B, C and E can be shortest so this case will be eliminated.

Case-2- When D is the tallest building. F is the third tallest building. D is 12m north of building B. Building C is 5m east of building D. D is situated somewhere in between building E and B vertically so E is in north of D. The Shortest building is in north west of building D so Only A can be the shortest building. Building F is 3rd tallest building among all and is 6m west of 3rd shortest building. There is no building which is situated in west of building A, D, and E so F is in west of building B Hence B is the third shortest building.

  1. Which of the following building is the second tallest building?

(a) C

(b) A

(c) E

(d) Either (a) or (c)

(e) None of these
