Eight students U, V, W, X, Y, Z, A and B are sitting around a square table for dinner such that some of them are facing towards the centre and some of them are facing outside the centre, but not necessarily in the same order. Four of them sit at the corners of the table and four of them sit at the middle of the sides of the table. Y does not sit at any of the middle of the sides of the table. V and A faces the same direction. Z gets 4th rank and sits third to the right of V, who gets an odd number rank but not 3rd rank. Z is an immediate neighbour of X and sits third to the left of U, who faces the centre. U does not sit immediate to the one who gets 6th rank. The one who gets 2nd rank sits opposite to the one who gets 3rd rank. Z does not faces outside of the centre. A sits second to the left of the one who gets 8th rank. Solution

Sol (1 -5): M likes either English or Computer and faces H, who likes either Maths or Physics. H stands second to the right of E. The one who likes Maths stands on the immediate right of E. The ones who like Maths and Physics are immediate neighbours, and one of them faces K. From these conditions we have two possible cases-

The one who likes Drawing faces the one who likes Hindi. The ones who like Drawing and Science stand in the same circle but they are not immediate neighbours of each other. So new arrangement will be-

J likes Sanskrit and faces the immediate neighbor of F. The ones who like Computer and Hindi stand in separate circles. By these conditions case- 1 is cancelled. G does not face L. So final arrangement will be-

Sol (6-10): Y sits third to the left of X and both face the same direction. The one who gets 1st rank sits third to the right of X and second to the left of the one who gets 6th rank. Y does not sit at any of the middle of the sides of the table. From these conditions we have four possible cases-

Z is an immediate neighbour of X and sits third to the left of U, who faces the centre. Z gets 4th rank and sits third to the right of V. U does not sit immediate to the one who gets 6th rank. By these conditions case- 2 and case- 3 are cancelled. So new arrangement will be-

Z does not faces outside of the centre. V gets an odd number rank but not 3rd rank. W gets 7th rank and faces the same direction as Z. So we can say that V gets 5th rank. The one who gets 2nd rank sits opposite to the one who gets 3rd rank. A sits second to the left of the one who gets 8th rank. X gets odd number rank. By these conditions case- 1 is cancelled. V and A faces the same direction. So final arrangement will be-
