SBI JIBO Exam Pattern and Syllabus
As an officer in State Bank of India, all officers get opportunity to work in its foreign offices by appearing in internal competitive exam called Junior India Based Officers (JIBO) examination. SBI conducts SBI JIBO Exam in the month of February or March. In this post we are giving you all the details regarding SBI JIBO eligibility criteria, syllabus and exam pattern for the SBI JIBO exam.
SBI JIBO Eligibility Criteria
Following are the eligibility criteria that needs to be fulfilled for SBI JIBO (Junior India Based Officer).
Age:
- Not less than 25 Years and not more than 40 Years.
Work Experience & Professional Qualification:
- The officer should have completed 4 years of confirmed service (in officer cadre) in the Bank. (excluding probation period).
- The official should have worked in rural / semi urban area for at least two (2) years as on the date of submission of application.
- Officers who have not completed any mandatory stipulations in their appointment letters e.g. length of service in a circle/area/Business unit will not be eligible.
- The official must have minimum experience of one (1) year in any one of the following areas during the current and last two assignments or during the immediately preceding six (6) years as on the date of submission of application:
(a) Credit Management
(b) International Banking
(c) Treasury Operations
(d) Branch Operations
(e) Risk Management
(f) Investment Management
- Officials having experience in more than one area may be given preference at the time of selection.
- Officials possessing professional / technical qualifications and knowledge of foreign languages (other than English) may be given preference at the time of selection.
Service Record:
- CDS grades considered for selection will be best 03 out of last 04 years’ grades. CDS grades in any of the best 03 years should not be less than AA.
- Officials against whom disciplinary action has been contemplated /pending/ initiated will not be eligible.
- Further, officials who have been awarded penalty (minor or major) and whose rigor period is not over and officials whose name appears in List of Officers of Doubtful Integrity (LODI) will also not be eligible. Cut-off date for this would be the date of submission of application. However, DPD/ Vigilance will also be obtained before their relieving for foreign postings and in case of any pending DPD/ Vigilance case against the selected official at that time, the foreign posting of the official will stand cancelled.
Placement Norms:
- Officials should have fulfilled the extant placement norms/ mandatory assignments for next promotion. Officers not meeting the criteria but given exemption will not be eligible.
- Officials should be willing to submit an undertaking for posting as per Bank’s administrative requirements and that they will be considered for next promotion only after completion of the requisite mandatory assignment as per the promotion policy/ guidelines issued by the Bank from time to time.
- Officials who have received out-of-turn ICT on spouse/ compassionate grounds and have not completed continuous stay at the transferee Circle for at least 5 Years will not be eligible for the selection process.
- Officials allowed overstay at a centre, involving deviation of extant guidelines of 5-year centre-stay policy on extreme compassionate/ medical ground/ care-giver ground, etc., will not be eligible for the selection process.
- Further, ICT applications under pipeline, if any, shall stand cancelled for selected candidates. However, the officers can apply for ICT once again, upon repatriation from their respective foreign assignments. Their seniority will be reckoned from the date of fresh application (post foreign posting) only.
Restriction on Foreign Posting in the same category:
- Officers posted abroad earlier as JIBO/Dealer will not be eligible.
Appearance in Interviews for Foreign Posting:
- Officers who have already appeared in interviews (including prior selection) for foreign posting three (3) times earlier will not be eligible. Officers who have declined a foreign posting in the past after being selected will not be eligible.
Non acceptance of Foreign Posting:
- In case any officer declines the foreign postings after publication of results, suitable disciplinary action would be initiated against such official.
Direct Interview for waitlisted candidates:
- The waitlisted candidates of last selection exercise (JIBO-2024) are directly eligible for interview subject to them continuing to fulfill all eligibility criteria for foreign posting as on 31st March (31.03.2025) and within the permissible maximum 3 attempts. The willing waitlisted candidates to submit Bio-data on the portal within the last date of submission of application.

Note:
- The duration of the examination will be of 120 Minutes and there will be 0.25 negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Online test for shortlisting of candidates for the interview for selection as JIBO.
