Statement of Chief Justice of India:
Chief Justice NV Ramana said after the hearing that it is the fourth straight week that the court has heard arguments over the air crisis in the national capital and its neighboring cities. He also expressed his feeling with notation that they feel that nothing has been happening and the pollution is going towards its worst case scenario…..only time is being wasted.
Major reason behind Delhi’s Air pollution:
- Delhi’s air quality dropped crisply in the last month after Diwali
- Farm fires were also cited as a source
- Vehicular and industrial emissions
- Dust and weather patterns
- Burning of crop stubble in neighbouring states
Supreme Court has also censure angrily to Delhi government over the reopening of the schools and argued that court might to be appoint to administer government due to its silly decision on 3-4 years olds are going to school but adults are working from home.
Lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi given reply on this on behalf of the Delhi government that they on schools because of a lot of debate on ‘learning loss’. Delhi government has reopened with the choice for online.
Note: Delhi schools reopened on Monday, about ten days after the closing because of the air crisis.
Air Quality slips to “Severe” category:
Delhi’s air quality has again dropped and indicates the “Severe” category in the Air Quality Index (AQI). As per the Ministry of Earth Science air quality might to be improved from tomorrow with the help of better wind speed.
About Air Quality Index:
This ranges from 0 to 500 as the higher its value there is greater level of pollution and high level of health concern. Some levels and its effects show below:
Tough questions were asked by the panel which includes Justice DY Chandrachud, that the Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas, short form ‘CAQM’ has “no power of enforcement and no power of real prosecution.
Supreme Court panel has directed to work actively and with creativity in an emergency. The court will hear the matter again tomorrow.
