Surat and Indore jointly conferred with Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023
The Ministry of Housing affairs hosted the Swachh Survekshan awards 2023 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu conferred Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 to Surat and Indore jointly.
The cleanest city award went to the post city Surat, Gujarat, alongside, Indore in Madhya Pradesh jointly bagged the top honors and became the cleanest city for 6 consecutive years.
Categories:
There are various categories under the Swachh Survekshan awards such as Clean Cities, Cleanest Cantonment, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Ganga Towns and Best Performing State. In the category of the cities where population is less than one lakh, Salvador secured the top place followed by Patan and Lonavala respectively.
Other awards in various categories:
The cleanest Cantonment board award was given to Mhow Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh. Among the cleanest Ganga Towns category, Varanasi and Prayagraj won the top two places respectively.
Under the Best Performing State category, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were adjudged the top three spots respectively. Best Safaimitra Surakshit Sheher awards went to Chandigarh.
President Droupadi Murmu has also launched the Swachh Survekshan 2023 dashboard. The theme of this year’s Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 was Waste to wealth.

According to the statement of Union Minister Shri Hardeep Singh Puri in the event, there was only 14 to 15 percent of scientific processing of waste and now India has achieved 76 percent of scientific processing of waste. In the upcoming two or three years India will achieve 100 percent of scientific processing of waste around the country.
The magnitude of Swachh Survekshan in India has increased significantly as there were only 73 major cities evolved in 2016 and 4477 cities in the 2023 edition, according to the Secretary of MoHUA, Shri Manoj Joshi.
President Droupadi Murmu has also unveiled an audio visual presentation highlighting Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath campaign and released the Swachh Bharat Mission Anthem for 2024 ‘Naya Sankalp Hai, Naya Prakalp Hai’ sung by Kailash Kher.
