• COVID 19 pandemic is an evident proof of the interdependence between humans,animals and environment.
• Pandemics not only affect humans and animals but also affect a larger part of the environment and livestock.
• To prepare for any such future events, the National One Health Mission was endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) in July 2022.
• After the endorsement of the National One Health Mission, around 13 ministries, Departments and science agencies came forward to make efforts to achieve the “One Health” and “pandemic preparedness” goal.
• The leaders of these ministries had decided to have a National Institute For One Health and in December 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of this Institute in Nagpur.
• This National Institute For One Health is going to be an anchor for coordinating activities in the Health space for both nationally and internationally.
• There are some objectives behind the establishment of the National Institute For One Health such as integrated disease surveillance, Joint outbreak response,coordinated research and development and seamless information sharing for better efforts.
• A close coordination between center and states is also important to achieve One Health goal.
• A national network of high risk pathogen laboratories has been started under the National One Health Mission.
• To address these issues, the involvement of Artificial intelligence,machine learning and disease modeling and coordinate capacity building in epidemiology must be needed to increase.
• During the G20 meeting, the goal of One Health was highlighted by all members and they decided to work together to achieve this global goal.
