• According to a study conducted in 2023 by Skill Council For Green Jobs stated that around 85 percent of the training in green skills was provided to men. This study also revealed that around 90 percent women believed that persisting social norms such as believing that women are not suitable for certain technical jobs, lower representation in science fields and familial conditions restricted them to participate in training programmes for green skills.
• Empowering women and addressing the gender disparity in climate action will lead India towards a low carbon and environmental sustainable economy.
• Women’s participation in green jobs can lead India to various benefits such as it can address the gender disparity in the labour market and improve women’s participation rate in the labour market.
• There is only limited data available in India currently. Mapping new and advanced emerging areas for green jobs and collecting sex disaggregated data on green growth could be the initial point towards women empowerment in this particular sector.
