PM: Indian forces defeated Pakistan in hours
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Pakistan was forced to give up within just a few hours during Operation Sindoor, showing India’s strength. He said this while visiting Bengaluru, where he opened big transport projects, including the long-awaited Yellow Line of the city’s Namma Metro.
- He praised the Indian Army for moving several kilometres inside Pakistan after crossing the border. According to him, the whole world saw how quickly India could make Pakistan surrender.
- Modi also praised Indian-made technology and the Make in India plan, saying that the youth of Bengaluru and Karnataka played an important role in the success of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan’s forces.
- Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh said that during the operation, the Indian Air Force shot down at least five Pakistani fighter jets and one big aircraft, which was probably used for electronic spying or early warning.
- During his Bengaluru visit, Modi laid the foundation stone for Namma Metro Phase 3 and launched three Vande Bharat train routes — Bengaluru–Belagavi, Katra–Amritsar, and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune — to improve travel.
- He also held a roadshow on Ballari Road, urging the people of Bengaluru to lead the Make in India mission on the global stage. He called the city a symbol of modern India’s growth because of the hard work and creativity of its people.
- Modi said that Bengaluru belongs among the top global cities, and the Yellow Line of the Metro will make the city stronger. He also said that Bengaluru’s Metro has become an example for other Indian cities to follow.
- He mentioned that big companies like Infosys, Biocon, and Delta Electronics paid for Metro stations through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. He called this inspiring for the country’s development and proof of a strong partnership between business and government.
Election panel asks Rahul for proof of vote-rigging claim
- The Election Commission (EC) has sent a notice to Rahul Gandhi, asking him to give proof for his claims of “vote theft” in the Mahadevapura Assembly area so that they can investigate properly.
- Rahul made the claims in a press conference in New Delhi on August 7. The EC asked for the exact papers he showed, as he made it seem like they were official records from the Election Commission itself.
- One of his claims was that a woman named Shakun Rani had voted twice. But when the EC asked her, she said she had voted only once, which went against Rahul’s evidence.
- The Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) first check found that the document with tick marks, which Rahul showed, had not been made by polling officials. So, they asked him to provide the real proof for his claims about double voting.
- Rahul listed five ways in which he believed votes were stolen — duplicate voters, fake or wrong addresses, many voters listed at one address, invalid photos, and misuse of Form 6 (used to include names in the voter list). He said there were 1,00,250 fake votes.
- When the EC asked him to give an affidavit under oath as per the rules, Rahul replied that his oath as an MP under the Constitution was already enough.
- Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress president and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar submitted a formal complaint to the Karnataka CEO in Bengaluru regarding the same matter.
India sets example in lion protection, says Minister
- Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Sunday that the growing number of Asiatic lions in Gujarat shows India’s close connection with nature and success in protecting wildlife.
- He said India is committed to protecting nature and bringing back wildlife, speaking at a World Lion Day event in Timbdi village inside the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Gujarat.
- The lion count in May showed 891 Asiatic lions, up from 674 five years ago. This rise is proof that India’s efforts to save lions are working well.
- Yadav noted that the rise in the lion population since 1889 — when the last Asiatic lions were recorded — reflects India’s strong connection with nature and its commitment to protecting wildlife.
- He reminded people that last year Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to grow the lion population in Gujarat and to develop Barda Sanctuary as a new home for lions. That promise has now been fulfilled.
- Talking about environmental problems, Yadav mentioned that climate change has caused heavy rain and cyclones. He spoke about Modi’s global projects like the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the International Solar Alliance.
- He spoke about the International Big Cat Alliance, which focuses on safeguarding five of the seven big cat species found in India. He highlighted that Asiatic lions are found only in Gir, Gujarat, giving the state full recognition for their preservation efforts.
- Praising the Maldhari community — a group of traditional herders living near the lions — Yadav called their lifestyle an example of humans living peacefully with wildlife. He invited people to visit Gir to see both the lions and the Maldhari way of life.
- Yadav also mentioned that India’s tiger reserves have grown from 47 to 58 and that the country now shelters 70% of the world’s tiger population. He further pointed out that India is home to 714 snow leopards, with conservation work ongoing.
- On cheetahs, he said bringing African cheetahs to India was difficult but successful. He listed many animal protection projects — for lions, tigers, elephants, dolphins, and the Great Indian Bustard — that have made India a leader in conservation.
- He added that jaguars and pumas are native to Latin America and shared Modi’s message calling on all 97 countries that have big cats to cooperate, share expertise, and use technology to protect them.
- Marking the occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled 11 eco-development projects worth ₹189 crore, including a safari park, an interpretation centre, and a breeding centre in Barda Wildlife Sanctuary to support wildlife conservation.
