• The defense ministry has come up with a solution to the disagreements among states to qualify for the republic day parade tableaux. This is a rotational plan which will ensure that all states as well as all union territories have a chance to participate in the republic day parade within a three year cycle.
• It means in every three years a state or a Union Territory has a chance to showcase their tableaux in the republic day parade.
• This is a welcoming step by the Ministry of Defence to resolve the controversy of states and Union Territories participating in the republic day parade.
• There are 16 states/union territories tableaux selected for this year’s republic day parade, whereas opposition ruled Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka and West Bengal were not selected.
• Many opposition party ruled states representatives claimed that there was a political motive to reject our proposals for the republic day parade.
• Since the center can select only 15 to 16 states/union territories tableaux for each year in the republic day parade, it is not possible to arrange the participation of every state and union territories in the republic day parade.
• There is also a plan for not selected states/union territories to showcase their tableaux at the Bharat Parv from January 23rd to 31st January 2024 and all states agree to this plan.
• This new plan ensures to give everyone an equitable chance to participate.
• The defense ministry already has established a screening mechanism for participation; a committee has also been set up to screen the proposal of states and organizations.
• The allegations made by the not selected states may be right or wrong but the selection process of the republic day parade has to be apolitical and transparent.
• The marching contingents are going to show the military power of the country and on the other hand the tableaux of selected states and Union Territories are focused on the cultural splendour and diversity.
