• As per the reports, there were 15 students who ended their lives in 2022, 18 in 2019 and 20 students were there who ended their lives by suicide in 2018.
• During the period of COVID 19, either the coaching centers were closed or virtually operated. The data is not clear at that time.
• As per the data, around 2,00,000 students go to Kota to improve their academic Excellence and prepare for different competitive exams majorly for Joint Entrance Exam( JEE) and NEET.
• Kota witnesses an impressive annual revenue worth of 10,000 crore from this education business.
• There are many steps taken by the government and coaching institutes as well to prevent the any instance of suicide such as hostels are equipped with anti suicide features, iron grills across balconies, training for hostel staff, specialized training in mess administration, behavioral counseling, psychological support and focusing more on the overall welfare of the students.
• One reason for increasing the number of suicide in India especially in these types of education hub areas is the the Limited number of seats in government institutions and high fees in the private institutions. These all reasons make a disturbing environment for the students.
• Now the competition has become more high and full of pressure due to the above reasons.
• These are the serious concerns and needed to be addressed soon.
