- The second Nipah infection in Palakkad was confirmed on Saturday night when a 58-year-old man from Kumaramputhur near Mannarkkad tested positive for the virus after his death in a private hospital.
- He was being treated at the hospital for fever, and even before the official test results came from the National Institute of Virology in Pune, health officials started contact tracing immediately to reduce the risk of further spread.
- Authorities in Palakkad and Malappuram districts began finding people who had been in touch with the deceased man over the past three weeks. In total, 46 people were identified as contacts and are being monitored.
