Iran warns blockade could derail ceasefire, threatens to halt Red Sea traffic

  • The head of Iran’s military central command centre said that if the U.S. does not remove the blockade, it could become a reason to break the ongoing two-week ceasefire agreement.
  • Iranian General Ali Abdollahi said that if the U.S. does not change its decision, Iran’s armed forces “will not allow any exports or imports to continue” through important water routes like the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea.
  • This warning came after U.S. President Donald Trump said that peace talks between the two countries might start again within a week.
  • Iran also said that both sides were still in contact indirectly through Pakistan, even after earlier talks did not lead to any agreement.
  • On Wednesday, Iran welcomed a Pakistani team led by its Army chief Asim Munir.
  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that Pakistan has spoken with the Americans and understands Iran’s position, and both sides would discuss their views in detail during the visit.
  • The U.S. has been putting more pressure on Iran by using the naval blockade. U.S. Central Command claimed that American forces had “completely stopped economic trade going in and out of Iran by sea.”
  • However, ship tracking data from the Strait of Hormuz showed that the situation was not fully clear. Iran’s Tasnim news agency also reported that shipping activity from southern Iran was still continuing.
  • In an interview with the New York Post, Donald Trump said that a new round of talks with Iran could happen in Pakistan “within the next two days.” He also told Fox Business that the war was “very close to being over.”

  • In reply, Iran suggested that it could stop its nuclear activities for five years, but the U.S. did not accept this offer.

Samrat takes oath as Bihar’s first BJP Chief Minister after Nitish steps down

  • Samrat Choudhary, the new leader of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday, ending Nitish Kumar’s long time in power.
  • Two senior JD(U) leaders, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary, were also sworn in as Ministers, and they are expected to work as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government led by BJP.
  • Before taking oath, Samrat Choudhary visited a famous Hanuman temple in Patna to pray and seek blessings.
  • Many important BJP leaders were present, including party chief Nitin Nabin, Union Minister J. P. Nadda, and national general secretary B. L. Santosh, along with Nitish Kumar.
  • After becoming Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary went to the party office and met workers. He said that with the blessings of Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he would continue development work in the State.
  • In his first official meeting, he told government officers to follow a “zero tolerance” policy against corruption very strictly.
  • He said that officials must make sure that people get proper services and their problems are solved quickly at local levels like block offices, circle offices, and police stations.

Bageshwar Dham approved by government to accept foreign funds

  • The Union Home Ministry has given permission under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) to Bageshwar Dham, a religious organisation led by Dhirendra Krishna Shastri.
  • Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, a 29-year-old godman from Madhya Pradesh, is known for supporting the idea of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ and making strong statements on religious issues.
  • Many politicians visit him, and his organisation’s website already has a section for collecting donations from within India.
  • The organisation did not reply when asked for comments.
  • Under the law, any NGO or group must register under FCRA if it wants to receive money from foreign countries.
  • NGOs can receive foreign funds for social, educational, religious, economic, and cultural work, and they can register under one or more categories.
  • The Shri Bageshwar Jan Seva Samiti Gadha, based in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, has been registered under ‘Religious (Hindu)’ along with other categories like cultural, economic, educational, and social.
  • As of April 15, 38 NGOs have received FCRA registration, and out of them, six organisations have listed ‘Religious (Hindu)’ as one of their purposes.
  • Other organisations in this category include Ramakrishna Missions (Bolpur and Purnea), Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (Delhi), The Institution (Dharmasthala), and Radha Soami Satsang (Agra).

  • During the recent Budget session of Parliament (which ended on April 2), the government introduced the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to change the existing law.
  • However, due to strong opposition from other political parties, the discussion and passing of the Bill were postponed.
  • The Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, along with Christian groups, opposed the Bill because it allows the government to take control of an NGO’s property and assets if its FCRA registration is cancelled or suspended.
