- Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai said that Nepal urgently needed freezer units and DNA-testing kits. He warned that the bodies needed to be preserved and identified as quickly as possible to stop them from decomposing and to avoid risks to public health.
- Rai said that the government was “putting all our resources at disposal in relief and rescue operations.” He also said that Nepal had asked several countries for help.
- He said that some of the urgently needed items, such as airtight bags for keeping the bodies, had already started arriving, while other equipment was expected to arrive soon.
- More than 900 workers from hydropower sites were missing. Officials believed that about 100 people who were trapped inside tunnels were still alive.
- Rai said that experts from India, China and South Korea had joined the Nepal Army in the efforts to rescue these missing workers.
- After the floodwater went down, rescue teams of the Nepal Army started their search again to find the entrances of the tunnels. They used drilling machines, excavators, hydraulic cutters and other heavy equipment to carry out the rescue work.
- Authorities also started mass burials of unidentified bodies in Chitwan, which is about 200 km from Rasuwa, on Saturday. Before burying the bodies, they collected DNA samples so that the bodies could be taken out of the graves later if the victims were identified.
