The CAA and Muslim exclusion
- Recently, Union Minister Amit Shah in a Conclave highlighted the major two reasons according to him of the exclusion of Muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the recently implemented Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.
- The first reason as per his speech is the historical partition between India and Pakistan and the second reason is that these Muslims have come from officially Islamic states so that the issue of persecution of Muslim community does not arise.
- The argument that all Muslims are the main reasons behind the partition is not all true. Hindu community also wanted to fulfill their dream of a Hindu Rashtra behind the partition. So according to the author, only Muslim are not responsible for partition.
- There is another hidden truth that many Muslims in India had opposed the decision of partition and wanted to live in India.
- There is also truth that Hindu community in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan is a minor community and definitely faces persecution. Although there are also some Muslim communities in these states also feel persecution.
- As a secular country India doesn’t address this issue as something of a blur.
- The partition had been done at the basis of religious belief but all Muslims can not be responsible for it.
- The Muslim exclusion in the recently implemented Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 is a major issue and needs to be seen in the broader context.
