Donald Trump says U.S. envoys will not travel to Pakistan

  • Donald Trump said on Saturday that he told his officials not to go to Pakistan for more talks with Iranian leaders about stopping the war.
  • He explained that he cancelled the trip to Islamabad because it was taking too much time to travel and he had too much work.
  • He also said that there is a lot of confusion and internal fighting in Iran’s leadership, and claimed that even they don’t know who is actually in control. He added that the U.S. has all the power in the situation, while Iran has none.
  • Trump said that if Iran wants to talk, they should contact the U.S. themselves, and he shared this message on his platform Truth Social.
  • This decision came after a visit to Islamabad by Abbas Araghchi.
  • During his visit, Araghchi met Asim Munir, who is an important person in trying to mediate, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
  • Araghchi thanked Pakistan for trying to help, but clearly said Iran is firm on its position, including the ceasefire and ending what Iran calls a forced war.
  • Ishaq Dar said that talks with the Iranian team lasted about two hours, and Pakistan stressed that dialogue and peaceful discussion are very important.
  • Iranian media later confirmed that Araghchi had left Islamabad, and said Pakistan would help pass Iran’s proposals to others.
  • An Iranian spokesperson said that Araghchi will next visit Oman and Russia to continue efforts to end the war, which Iran says was started by Israel and the U.S. on February 28.
  • Iran’s military warned through state media that if the U.S. continues actions like blocking routes, piracy, or aggressive moves, then Iran’s armed forces will respond.
  • Attempts to restart talks have not moved forward, mainly because Iran refuses to join while the U.S. naval blockade on its ports continues.
  • In response, Iran has partly blocked the Strait of Hormuz, allowing only limited ships, which has affected global oil and trade markets.
  • Oil prices went down on Friday because people hoped that peace talks might restart and reduce problems in the strait.
  • Antonio Costa said that the Strait of Hormuz must be fully opened immediately without any restrictions or fees, as it is important for the whole world.
  • On Thursday, Trump announced a three-week extension of a ceasefire in Lebanon, and spoke positively about chances for peace after meeting Israeli and Lebanese leaders.
  • He also said he hopes for a three-way meeting between leaders of Lebanon and Israel.
  • Mohammed Raad asked the Lebanese government to stop direct talks with Israel, warning that any long-term peace deal suggested by Trump may not be accepted by everyone in Lebanon.
  • Benjamin Netanyahu said that efforts are being made to create a historic peace between Israel and Lebanon, and accused Hezbollah of trying to disturb the process.
  • Even with the ceasefire, Lebanon’s health ministry said that Israeli airstrikes in the Nabatieh area killed four people on Saturday.

Israel evacuates 240 individuals from Mizoram amid escalating war concerns

  • Due to the ongoing war in West Asia, Israel flew around 240 people from Mizoram to Tel Aviv on Thursday under “Operation Wings of Dawn,” approved by Benjamin Netanyahu.
  • Although people from the Bnei Menashe community have gone to Israel before, this is the first time such a large group has been moved during a war situation.
  • Since February 28, when the S.-Israel war against Iran began, India has issued a travel warning for its citizens in Israel, calling the situation dangerous due to missile attacks from Iran and Hezbollah.
  • The Jewish Agency for Israel said that this flight from New Delhi was the first of three groups, mainly from Churachandpur in Manipur and border areas of Mizoram.
  • It also said that more people will travel in the coming days, with the total number expected to be around 600.
  • The agency said that the flight included many young families, who will first stay in absorption centres in Nof HaGalil, where they will meet relatives who had already moved to Israel earlier.
  • An Indian official said that India did not help in arranging this flight, and its role is only to make sure no human trafficking happens, not to stop legal migration.
  • Sources said that even though India warned about the risks, Israeli agencies continued the operation as part of their religious process.
  • According to reports, the new arrivals are expected to settle in Kiryat Yam near Haifa.
  • The group landed at Ben Gurion Airport, under a program run by Israel’s Aliyah and Integration Ministry along with JAFI.
  • They will likely stay in northern Israel, which has recently faced attacks from Hezbollah.
  • Operation Wings of Dawn comes from a decision by Netanyahu and other Israeli ministers to bring all remaining members of the Bnei Menashe community to Israel.

Tamil Nadu launches third synchronized Nilgiri Tahr survey

  • The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has started the third synchronized survey of the Nilgiri Tahr from April 24 to 27, covering the entire area where the animal is found in the state.
  • This yearly survey is part of Project Nilgiri Tahr, and is very important for protecting and planning conservation of Tamil Nadu’s state animal.
  • The survey is being done together with the Kerala Forest Department, so counting happens at the same time across the Western Ghats.
  • Project Nilgiri Tahr, started on October 12, 2023, focuses on protecting habitats, tracking population, and using scientific methods.
  • The survey is done after the winter season when baby tahrs are born, so it becomes easier to count them along with adults.
  • The first survey in 2024 counted 1,031 tahrs across 140 survey areas in 13 forest divisions.
  • The second survey in 2025 counted 1,303 tahrs, covering 177 areas, and also showed that tahrs are returning to places like Pasumalai.
  • This year’s survey is much bigger, covering over 3,100 km, including 14 forest divisions, 43 ranges, 124 beats, and 177 survey areas, from Ashambu Mottai in Kanniyakumari to Tavalamalai in Gudalur.
  • Around 800 trained forest staff are taking part in this survey.
  • For the first time, a mobile app called “Varudai” is being used, which helps in collecting data live, tracking location with GPS, and making reports in a standard way.
