Tamil Nadu Drops Parandur Airport Project, Identifies New Sites
- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday announced that his government had decided to cancel the proposed airport project at Parandur and would instead look for other suitable places to build a second airport for Chennai.

- The main Opposition DMK wanted to speak about the issue, but Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar said that he would not allow a debate on an announcement made under Rule 110 of the Assembly.
- Former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that he was not asking for a debate and only wanted to give a clarification. However, the Speaker did not change his decision, following which DMK members walked out of the Assembly.

U.S. Administration Proposes $1.03 Lakh Fee for H-1B Visa Applications
- The U.S. on Monday proposed a $103,265 fee for all H-1B visa applications that come under the annual visa limit, including applications that qualify for the advanced degree exemption, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said.
- The new proposal came one month after a federal appeals court rejected a request to put on hold a district judge’s order that had overturned the Donald Trump administration’s plan to charge a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
- The DHS notice said the department plans to introduce the $103,265 amount as a separate and additional H-1B fee, instead of adding it to the existing H-1B petition fee.
- The proposed fee would apply only to H-1B applications that are counted under the annual visa limit, including those that qualify for the advanced degree exemption. It would not apply to applications that are exempt from the annual limit.
- DHS said the proposed fee is meant specifically to cover the costs faced by different government agencies in carrying out the work mentioned in the rule. It also said keeping the fee separate would make it easier to track, manage and report the money collected through it.
- The U.S. Congress has fixed the current yearly limit for regular H-1B visas at 65,000, which is commonly known as the “regular cap.”
- Congress has also kept 20,000 additional H-1B visas for workers who have a Master’s degree or a higher degree from a U.S. college. This additional group of visas is commonly known as the “Master’s cap.”

- Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that he plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
- Putin made this statement during his meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who met the Russian President at the Kremlin in Moscow.
