• India has achieved many significant milestones to curb AIDS since India had witnessed the first case of HIV in 1981 but still the country needs to take major steps to stop spreading HIV across the country.
• It is estimated that 39 million people across the world are diagnosed with HIV and among them 2.4 million people belong to India.
• According to the records, there were 1.3 million new AIDS cases found across the world and 63k new cases in India last year 2022.
• The most vulnerable people are Transgenders, women sex workers,men having sex with men and Drug users.
• Many intensive researches have been taking place for the last few years but no vaccine can be made for this virus.
• When a person is infected with HIV, the immune system of the body gets affected and leads to infections such as lung infection, pneumonia,diarrhea diseases and many more.
• In 2022 , India has witnessed 42000 deaths caused by HIV.
• The World Health Organization has released guidelines to prevent these opportunistic infections spreading because of HIV but unfortunately these guidelines are not implemented enthusiastically around the countries.
• Now the world has antiretroviral medicines which are used for the prevention of these opportunistic infections so that a person with HIV infection can live a proper life.
• In WHO guidelines,it is suggested to use rapid ART ( Antiretroviral Therapy) just after the diagnosis of HIV in a person.
• Around 90 percent of these Antiretroviral medicines are from India.
• In today’s world we have science Based Protocols and methods to prevent and diagnose HIV, let use these Protocols to eliminate AIDS across the world.
