WORLD CHAMPIONS India stages remarkable comeback, clinches title

For a brief moment, it seemed like India might falter at the final hurdle once again. Could it be another case of ‘so near yet so far’?

  • In the summit clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Saturday, South Africa appeared to be in cruise control.
  • The Proteas required only 30 runs from 30 balls to secure their first-ever World Cup title.
  • However, the Indians were determined not to yield. Hardik Pandya stepped up with the vital wicket of Heinrich Klaasen, who was on the verge of taking the game away.
  • Jasprit Bumrah stifled the batters with a tight 18th over, followed by Arshdeep Singh who kept them in check during the penultimate over.
  • Needing 16 runs off the final over, Suryakumar Yadav took a sensational catch at long-off, leaving David Miller and South Africa stunned.
  • Hardik kept his cool to secure a seven-run victory. Emotions overflowed as the win was sealed; Hardik couldn’t hold back his tears, nor could the Indian fans who filled the Kensington Oval. Meanwhile, the South Africans were devastated.
  • Almost immediately after India’s remarkable victory, the skies opened up. In the rain, Rohit Sharma’s team basked in pride.

CBI conducts searches in Gujarat in connection with NEET leak case; one additional individual detained

  • On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at various places in Gujarat as part of its investigation into an alleged conspiracy aimed at assisting 30 students during the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) held at a Godhra examination center for undergraduate medical colleges. Additionally, the agency arrested another suspect in the NEET question paper leak case in Jharkhand on Friday.
  • Search operations were carried out at premises linked to the accused and suspects across Godhra, Ahmedabad, Kheda, and Anand districts of Gujarat.
  • The individual arrested in the paper leak case on Friday evening was identified as Jamaluddin, a journalist employed at a Hindi newspaper in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
  • As per the agency, on the day of the examination, he aided the principal Ahsanul Haque and vice-principal Imtiaz Alam of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, who were previously apprehended in the case.
  • On Saturday, the CBI transported the three individuals, along with two other accused persons named Manish Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar, to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital in Patna for a medical examination.
  • Prakash and Mr. Kumar allegedly played a key role in organizing the rental of the Learn Boys Hostel and Play School in Patna’s Khemnichak locality. It is alleged that this venue was utilized for distributing the leaked question papers to candidates on the night before the examination, facilitating them to memorize the answers.
  • The CBI has been awarded custody of the five accused individuals for a period of five days by a special court.
  • Sources indicate that the agency plans to transport all the accused individuals to Delhi as part of their investigation. Accompanied by Baldev Kumar alias Chintu and Mukesh Kumar, residents of Nalanda in Bihar, the CBI team also conducted on-site verifications at multiple locations in Patna.
  • Baldev Kumar allegedly received the solved NEET-UG exam question paper in PDF format on his mobile phone, which was subsequently printed using a wireless printer and distributed among candidates for memorization at the play school. Mukesh Kumar is accused of aiding the offense by transporting candidates to and from the location after they memorized the answers.
