• “This gap is expected to be bridged in the next few days, specifically when there is a forecast of good rains in east and east-central India from Saturday,” said the official.
• The acreage of paddy is already nearly 4% (14 lakh hec- tares) higher this year than the sown areas of corresponding period of last year.
• Even overall acreage of all kharif crops put together is around 5 lakh hectares higher than last year despite the cumulative monsoon rainfall (June 1-September 1) deficit of 11 per cent.
• Pulses acreage declined by over 8% to 119 lakh hectares from 130 lakh hectares last year while oilseeds declined 1% over last year.
