• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced and given assurance to Tamil Nadu to release funds for their condition.
• M K Stalin showed the need of interim relief funds 7,033 crore and a final relief fund of 12,659 crore from the central government in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
• He also addressed the need of 2000 cr from the PM National relief fund. Thus it would be a total 21,692 crore relief funds the state wants from the central government.
• Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also announced 450 cr of State Disaster Response Fund(SDRF) after the airel supervision of affected areas.
• Apart from that , the center has sanctioned a project aimed to flood migration worth 500 cr.
• According to the Finance Minister statement, the center can’t declare a disaster due to nature being “a national disaster”.
• The government should come with clear guidelines when the situation of relief funds arises.
• Center must make it a priority to formulate new norms on the sensitive topic of disaster management and a set of clear guidelines so that any political controversy couldn’t take any place in between.
