The path to achieve SDGs target

• The United General Assembly in 2015 adopted the Agenda-2030 identifying 17 SDGs with 169 specific target to achieve by 2030 and apparently it was a non-binding target but all countries have given their commitment to put efforts towards these goals.
• As per the various reports and surveys, the path to achieve the SDGs goal is not on the track.
• However the time period between 2015-2019 witnessed some improvements but it is not sufficient to achieve the targets by 2030.
• The COVID pandemic and other global crises have contributed to slow the process.
• The ignorance towards the goals related to environment and biodiversity is also the major concern.
• As per the UN SDG report 2023, there are five key areas where we need to take action urgently such as commitment of governments to deliver the promises to achieve SDGs, integrated government policies to reduce poverty, inequality, women and girls empowerment; fostering the National and subnational capacity,accountability to deliver progress; recommitment of the International organizations to help developing countries and UN development system.
• The year 2024 is very important with this aspect because there are around 49% of the world’s population going to be part of the polls because elections are happening across the world.
• The newly elected government must ensure to address the sustainability issue and make their policies accordingly.
