Time for Indian Defence university

• India’s neighboring countries have their defence universities as China has three defence universities and Pakistan has two universities. Now it’s time to come when India must operationalise India defence university.
• The main aim of these universities is to enhance the strategic thinking and promote academic rigour to strengthen their arm forces.
• Because of the challenging characters of war, India needs to invest in military education and the academic preparation to deal with any current and future challenges.
• Like other countries,India also needs a broad based education system in militia dynamic and the realisation of that need came into effect after the independencethere. There was a chief staff committee to set a defence university in India.
• In 1982,a study group was formed by that committee that emphasised the need of a Apex educational Institute For armed forces.
• Two decades later, after the Kargil war, a new committee was set up under the chairmanship of Dr K Subrahmanyam to examine then issues and based on their recommendations, in 2010, approval was granted to establish the defence university in Gurgaon. But as per a report,the progress is slow to set up the IDU.
• There are many training institutes opened by the armed forces in India but they are lack of Professional Military Education and multi dispensary approach to enhance the strategic thinking of armed forces and IDU can be the solution for these issues.
• India needs to operationalise the IDU as soon as possible.
