 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Unabashed (adj.)

Meaning: not embarrassed, disconcerted, or ashamed. (अचल)

Synonyms: unashamed, shameless, unembarrassed

Antonyms: abashed, ashamed, embarrassed

Sentence: He seems unabashed by his recent defeat.

  1. Browbeat (verb)

Meaning: intimidate (someone), typically into doing something, with stern or abusive words. (धमकाना)

Synonyms: bully, hector, intimidate

Antonyms: cheer, comfort, console

Sentence: They browbeat him into signing the document.

  1. Ovation (noun)

Meaning: a sustained and enthusiastic show of appreciation from an audience, especially by means of applause. (वाहवाही)

Synonyms: applause, handclapping, clapping

Antonyms: booing, hissing, taunt

Sentence: He received the longest ovation of the evening.

  1. Addendum (noun)

Meaning: an item of additional material, typically omissions, added at the end of a book or other publication. (परिशिष्ट)

  1. Debauchery (noun)

Meaning: excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures. (ऐयाशी)

Synonyms: dissipation, dissoluteness, degeneracy

Antonyms: abstinence, asceticism, sobriety

Sentence: These people rolled in wealth and rioted in debauchery.

  1. Puny (adj.)

Meaning: small and weak. (छोटा)

Synonyms: diminutive, dinky, dwarfish

Antonyms: large, massive, big

  1. Cavalier (adj.)

Meaning: showing a lack of proper concern; offhand. (अभिमानपूर्ण)

Synonyms: arrogant, assumptive, bumptious

Antonyms: humble, lowly, modest

Sentence: The club’s owner showed a cavalier attitude to the licensing laws.

  1. Populace (noun)

Meaning: the people living in a particular country or area. (आबादी)

Synonyms: population, inhabitants, residents

Sentence: Many of the city’s populace travel to work by subway or bus.

  1. Furtive (adj.)

Meaning: attempting to avoid notice or attention, typically because of guilt or a belief that discovery would lead to trouble; secretive. (गुप्त रूप से)

Synonyms: secretive, secret, surreptitious

Antonyms: public, overt, acknowledged

Sentence: The secretary looked almost furtive when I walked in.

  1. Tirade (noun)

Meaning: a long, angry speech of criticism or accusation. (भाषण)

Synonyms: diatribe, harangue, jeremiad

Antonyms: encomium, eulogy

Sentence: She launched into a tirade against the policies that ruined her business.
