‘Vocabulary’
- Indubitable (adj.)
Meaning: impossible to doubt; unquestionable. (ज़ाहिर)
Synonyms: unquestionable, undoubtedly, indisputable
Antonyms: doubtful, dubious, iffy
Sentence: The indubitable evidence we produced bore down our opponents in the debate.
- Prickly (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person) ready to take offense. (चिड़चिड़ा)
Synonyms: irritable, irascible, peevish
Antonyms: companionable, cordial, extroverted
Sentence: she dreaded having to deal with her prickly boss
- Capricious (adj.)
Meaning: given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior. (मनमौजी)
Synonyms: fickle, inconstant, changeable
Antonyms: certain, changeless, constant
Sentence: It’s terrible to feel our livelihood hinges on a capricious boss.
- Unwittingly (adv.)
Meaning: without being aware; unintentionally. (बेइरादा)
Synonyms: accidentally, fortuitously, inadvertently,
Antonyms: meticulously, orderly, intentionally
Sentence: If I offended you it was unwittingly.
- Dearth (noun)
Meaning: a scarcity or lack of something. (कमी)
Synonyms: lack, scarcity, shortage
Antonyms: abundance, adequacy, opulence
Sentence: There seems to be a dearth of good young players at the moment.
- Slipshod (adj.)
Meaning: (typically of a person or method of work) characterized by a lack of care, thought, or organization. (असावधानीपूर्ण)
Synonyms: careless, lackadaisical, slapdash
Antonyms: attentive, careful, conscientious
Sentence: He’d caused many problems with his slipshod management.
- Avaricious (adj.)
Meaning: having or showing extreme greed for wealth or material gain. (लालची)
Synonyms: grasping, acquisitive, covetous
Antonyms: altruistic, bounteous, generous
Sentence: He sacrificed his own career so that his avaricious brother could succeed.
- Languished (verb)
Meaning: (of a person or other living thing) lose or lack vitality; grow weak or feeble. (दुर्बल होना)
Synonyms: weaken, grow weak, deteriorate
Antonyms: rebounded, recovered, recuperated
Sentence: He languished in poverty for years.
- Crucify (verb)
Meaning: criticize (someone) severely and unrelentingly. (आलोचना करना)
Synonyms: condemn, criticize severely, denounce
Antonyms: commend, endorse
Sentence: He’s going to crucify me when he finds out what I’ve done!
- Whiff (noun)
Meaning: an almost imperceptible sign of something (एहसास)
Synonyms: flicker, glimmer, hint
Antonyms: permeation, pervasion, saturation
Sentence: Even a whiff of appreciation for everything I’ve done for her would have been nice.
