 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Permanency (noun)

Meaning: lasting or constant existence (स्थायित्)

Synonyms: continuity, durability, consistency

Antonyms: inconsistency, impermanence, irregularity

Sentence: There’s no permanency about those little distinctions.

  1. Effacement (noun)

Meaning: the removal of writing, recorded material, or data. (मिटाना)

Synonyms: eradication, disintegration, remove

Antonyms: restoration, refurbish

Sentence: If I could efface all of my sad memories, I would be a very happy person.

  1. Abode (noun)

Meaning: a place of residence; a house or home. (निवास)

Synonyms: home, house, residence

Sentence: They established their permanent abode here.

  1. Penitent (adj.)

Meaning: feeling or showing sorrow and regret for having done wrong; repentant. (अनुतापी)

Synonyms: repentant, remorseful, ashamed

Antonyms: impenitent, unrepentant, unapologetic

Sentence: “I’m sorry, ” she said with a penitent smile.

  1. Exegetical (adj.)

Meaning: serving to explain (व्याख्या)

Synonyms: interpretive, interpretative, illustrative

Sentence: This is a new edition of Shakespeare with an abundance of exegetical commentary for the modern reader

  1. Occlude (verb)

Meaning: stop, close up, or obstruct (an opening, orifice, or passage). (रोक देना)

Synonyms: block, obstruct, stop

Antonyms: clear, free, unblock

Sentence: A blood clot had occluded a major artery in his body.

  1. Pellucid (adj.)

Meaning: translucently clear. (पारदर्शक)

Synonyms: translucent, transparent, clear

Antonyms: cloudy, opaque

Sentence: They sat there watching the water of the pellucid stream rush by.

  1. Arraignment (noun)

Meaning: the action of arraigning someone in court. (आक्षेप)

Synonyms: indictment, accusation, denunciation

Antonyms: guiltlessness, innocence

  1. Wretched (adj.)

Meaning: (of a person) in a very unhappy or unfortunate state. (मनहूस)

Synonyms: miserable, unhappy, sad

Antonyms: great, marvelous, wonderful

  1. Coruscate (verb)

Meaning: (of light) flash or sparkle. (उज्जवल होना)

Synonyms: flash, glance, gleam

Antonyms: dim, dull

Sentence: The light was coruscating from the walls.
