  1. Abeyance (noun)

Meaning: a state of temporary disuse or suspension. (आस्थगन)

Synonyms: suspension, dormancy, recession

Antonyms: continuation, continuance

Sentence: Our weekend plans were held in abeyance until we could get a weather forecast.

  1. Histrionic (adj.)

Meaning: overly theatrical or melodramatic in character or style. (अभिनय-संबंधी)

Synonyms: melodramatic, theatrical, dramatic

Antonyms: undramatic

Sentence: She put on a histrionic display of grief at her ex-husband’s funeral.

  1. Insinuate (verb)

Meaning: suggest or hint (something bad or reprehensible) in an indirect and unpleasant way. (इशारा करना)

Synonyms: imply, hint, suggest

Sentence: What are you trying to insinuate?

  1. Askance (adv.)

Meaning: with an attitude or look of suspicion or disapproval. (शंका से)

Synonyms: suspiciously, sideways, incredulously

Antonyms: positively, approvingly, favorably

Sentence: We looked askance at the dealer’s assertion that the car had never been in an accident.

  1. Rationale (noun)

Meaning: a set of reasons or a logical basis for a course of action or a particular belief. (औचित्य)

Synonyms: explanation, reason, argument

Sentence: The plan was criticized for its lack of rationale.

  1. Nonpareil (adj.)

Meaning: having no equal or rival for excellence or desirability (अतुल)

Synonyms: incomparable, matchless, unrivaled

Antonyms: ordinary, usual, common

Sentence: He was a great player, Britain’s nonpareil of the 1990s.

  1. Kerfuffle (noun)

Meaning: a state of noisy, confused activity (हंगामा)

Synonyms: commotion, stir, disturbance

Antonyms: rest, peace, hush

Sentence: Her glasses were broken in the kerfuffle.

  1. Preternatural (noun)

Meaning: beyond what is normal or natural. (अलौकिक)

Synonyms: extraordinary, unusual, exceptional

Antonyms: normal, ordinary, common

  1. Kibosh (verb)

Meaning: decisively end or reject (something). (रोक लगाना)

Synonyms: hinder, impede, halt

Antonyms: continue, proceed, carry on

Sentence: The rain certainly put the kibosh on our plans for a picnic.

  1. Sedentary (adj.)

Meaning: not doing or involving a lot of physical activity (निष्क्रिय)

Synonyms: lazy, dormant, dull

Antonyms: active, busy, engaged

Sentence: They led a sedentary life after retirement, spending their days in front of the television.
