 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Souvenir (noun)

Meaning: a thing that is kept as a reminder of a person, place, or event. (यादगार)

Synonyms: memento, keepsake, reminder

Antonyms: forget, fail to remember

Sentence: I bought the ring as a souvenir of Greece.

  1. Ameliorate (verb)

Meaning: make (something bad or unsatisfactory) better. (सुधारना)

Synonyms: improve, make better, enhance

Antonyms: worsen, damage, spoil

Sentence: The reform did much to ameliorate living standards

  1. Candor (noun)

Meaning: the quality of being open and honest in expression; frankness. (स्पष्टवादिता)

Synonyms: frankness, openness, honesty

Antonyms: dissembling, dissimulation, indirection

Sentence: He has earned a reputation for candor and integrity.

  1. Squabbling (verb)

Meaning: quarrel noisily over a trivial matter. (विवादों)

Synonyms: quarrel, fight, argue

Antonyms: accepting, agreeing, assenting

Sentence: The boys were squabbling over a ball.

  1. Palatial (adj.)

Meaning: resembling a palace in being spacious and splendid. (आलीशान)

Synonyms: luxurious, deluxe, magnificent

Antonyms: austere, no-frills, spartan

Sentence: She lives in a palatial New York apartment.

  1. Exquisite (adj.)

Meaning: extremely beautiful and, typically, delicate. (उत्कृष्ट)

Synonyms: beautiful, lovely, elegant

Antonyms: common, ordinary, rough

Sentence: Her wedding dress was absolutely exquisite.

  1. Perceptible (adj.)

Meaning: (especially of a slight movement or change of state) able to be seen or noticed. (प्रत्याक्ष)

Synonyms: noticeable, perceivable, detectable

Antonyms: imperceptible, insensible, undetectable

Sentence: Her foreign accent was barely perceptible.

  1. Overt (adj.)

Meaning: done or shown openly; plainly or readily apparent, not secret or hidden. (अपरोक्ष)

Synonyms: undisguised, unconcealed, clear

Antonyms: unapparent, unclarified, unclear

Sentence: He shows no overt signs of his unhappiness.

  1. Swoop (verb)

Meaning: (especially of a bird) move rapidly downwards through the air. (झपट्टा मारना)

Synonyms: dive, descend, pounce

Sentence: The barn owl can swoop down on a mouse in total darkness.

  1. Prophetic (adj.)

Meaning: accurately describing or predicting what will happen in the future. (भविष्यवाणी)

Synonyms: prescient, predictive, prophetical

Sentence: His warnings proved prophetic.
