‘Vocabulary’

  1. Amnesty (noun)

Meaning: an official pardon for people who have been convicted of political offenses. (आम माफ़ी)

Synonyms: pardon, pardoning. reprieve

Antonyms: penalty, punishment, retribution

Sentence: The government granted an amnesty to all political prisoners.

  1. Rebuts (verb)

Meaning: claim or prove that (evidence or an accusation) is false. (खंडन)

Synonyms: deny, negate, deflate

Antonyms: allow, agree, abet

Sentence: He had to rebut charges of acting for the convenience of his political friends.

  1. Abreast (adv.)

Meaning: side by side and facing the same way. (बराबर में)

Synonyms: in a row, side by side, alongside

Sentence: His car was abreast of the leading car.

  1. Decadence (noun)

Meaning: moral or cultural decline as characterized by excessive indulgence in pleasure or luxury. (पतन)

Synonyms: dissipation, dissoluteness, degeneracy

Antonyms: ascent, rise, morality

Sentence: The decadence of morals is bad for a nation.

  1. Ethereal (adj.)

Meaning: extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world. (नाज़ुक)

Synonyms: delicate, exquisite, dainty

Antonyms: bodily, corporeal, substantial

Sentence: She’s the prettiest, most ethereal romantic heroine in the movies.

  1. Garner (verb)

Meaning: gather or collect (something, especially information or approval). (इकट्ठा करना)

Synonyms: gather, collect, accumulate

Antonyms: disintegrate, dissolve, separate

Sentence: A prisoner garnering food bit by bit and hiding it in his pillow.

  1. Promiscuity (noun)

Meaning: the fact or state of being promiscuous. (संकीर्णता)

Synonyms: licence, licentiousness, promiscuousness

Antonyms: fidelity, allegiance, constancy

Sentence: Although most birds are monogamous, promiscuity is not unusual among brood parasites.

  1. Prattling (verb)

Meaning: talk at length in a foolish or inconsequential way. (बकवास)

Synonyms: chatter, babble, prate

Antonyms: articulating, enunciating

Sentence: The villagers are prattling on about the village gossip.

  1. Laden (adj.)

Meaning: heavily loaded or weighed down. (भार रखन हुआ)

Synonyms: loaded, burdened, overloaded

Antonyms: unload, lighten, relieve

Sentence: Dragging the fully laden boat across the sand dunes was no mean feat.

  1. Pillaging (verb)

Meaning: rob a (place) using violence, especially in wartime. (लूटने)

Synonyms: despoiling, looting, marauding

Sentence: The rebels went shooting and pillaging.
