 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Punctilious (adj.)

Meaning: showing great attention to detail or correct behavior. (अति शिष्‍टाचार)

Synonyms: meticulous, conscientious, careful

Antonyms: improper, indecorous

Sentence: Joe was always punctilious about repaying loans.

  1. Choleric (adj.)

Meaning: bad-tempered or irritable. (चिड़चिड़ा)

Synonyms: irritable, fiery, irascible

Antonyms: genial, affable, cordial

Sentence: He was affable at one moment, choleric the next.

  1. Incipient (adj.)

Meaning: beginning to come into existence (उत्पन्न होनेवाला)

Synonyms: nascent, initial, inchoate

Antonyms: mature, advanced

Sentence: The doctors discovered an incipient tumor.

  1. Telltale (adj.)

Meaning: revealing, indicating, or betraying something. (खुलासा)

Synonyms: indicative, reflective, denoting

Sentence: I know you’ve been eating chocolate because of the telltale smudges on your face.

  1. Commingle (verb)

Meaning: to turn into a single mass or entity that is more or less the same throughout (मिलना-जुलना)

Synonyms: combine, mix, merge

Antonyms: separate, divide, break up

Sentence: I think I’ll commingle some of these blue flowers with the pink ones.

  1. Pragmatic (adj.)

Meaning: dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations. (व्यावहारिक)

Synonyms: practical, realistic, sensible

Antonyms: idealistic, impractical, unrealistic

Sentence: In business, the pragmatic approach to problems is often more successful than an idealistic one.

  1. Roil (verb)

Meaning: to make angry (क्रोधित करना)

Synonyms: anger, infuriate, enrage

Antonyms: please, relieve, delight

Sentence: They were roiled by rumors.

  1. Brusque (adj.)

Meaning: abrupt or offhand in speech or manner. (अशिष्ट)

Synonyms: abrupt, rude, snappish

Antonyms: polite, courteous, civil

Sentence: His secretary was rather brusque with me.

  1. Dolorous (adj.)

Meaning: feeling or expressing great sorrow or distress. (दु:खद)

Synonyms: doleful, sorrowful, sad

Antonyms: joyful, happy, cheerful

Sentence: He spoke in a dolorous tone about his past.

  1. Inextricably (adv.)

Meaning: in a way that is impossible to disentangle or separate. (अवियोज्य)

Synonyms: inseparable, indivisible, entangled

Antonyms: separable, explicable

Sentence: Physical health is inextricably linked to mental health.
