‘Vocabulary’
- Lampoon (verb)
Meaning: publicly criticize (someone or something) by using ridicule, irony, or sarcasm. (निन्दालेख)
Synonyms: satirize, mock, ridicule
Sentence: His cartoon mercilessly lampoon the leading politician of the day.
- Miscellany (noun)
Meaning: a group or collection of different items; a mixture. (मिश्रण)
Synonyms: assortment, mixture, melange
Sentence: The museum houses a fascinating miscellany of nautical treasures.
- Finagle (verb)
Meaning: achieve something, by means of trickery or devious methods (छल से प्राप्त करना)
Synonyms: wangle, manage, contrive
Sentence: He finagled into the wedding by claiming he was a photographer.
- Abrade (verb)
Meaning: scrape or wear away by friction or erosion. (नष्ट करना)
Synonyms: erode, wear, fray
Antonyms: restore, revive, regenerate
Sentence: Much of the skin on his arm was abraded.
- Plebiscite (noun)
Meaning: the direct vote of all the members of an electorate on an important public question such as a change in the constitution. (जनमत-संग्रह)
Synonyms: vote, referendum, ballot
Sentence: A plebiscite was held to decide the fate of the country.
- Vibrancy (noun)
Meaning: the state of being full of energy and life. (फुरतीला)
Synonyms: active, vibrant, exuberance
Antonyms: inactivity, lifelessness, laziness
Sentence: She was a woman with extraordinary vibrancy and extraordinary knowledge.
- Offing (noun)
Meaning: time that is to come (आने वाला समय)
Synonyms: by-and-by, future, hereafter
Antonyms: past, posterity
Sentence: Major changes are in the offing for the company.
- Virility (noun)
Meaning: (in a man) the quality of having strength, energy, strong (हिम्मत)
Synonyms: manliness, masculinity, bravery
Antonyms: cowardice, timidity
Sentence: There was no doubting soldier’s virility.
- Prevaricate (verb)
Meaning: to make a statement one knows to be untrue (झूठ बोलना)
Synonyms: lie, fib, equivocate
Antonyms: testify, assert
Sentence: He seemed to prevaricate when journalists asked pointed questions.
- Denizen (noun)
Meaning: an inhabitant or occupant of a particular place. (निवासी)
Synonyms: inhabitant, resident, townsman
Antonyms: guest, tourist, visitor
Sentence: The denizens of Shantytown live in a natural way.
