‘Vocabulary’
- Bungle (verb)
Meaning: carry out (a task) clumsily or incompetently. (गड़बड़ कर देना)
Synonyms: fumble, botch, mishandle
Antonyms: better, improve, rectify
Sentence: If you bungle a job, you must do it again!
- Consternation (noun)
Meaning: feelings of anxiety or dismay, typically at something unexpected. (बेचैनी)
Synonyms: dismay, panic, tension
Antonyms: ease, contentment, tranquility
Sentence: The announcement created surprise and consternation.
- Levitation (noun)
Meaning: a raising or a state of being raised to a higher rank or position (उत्थान)
Synonyms: elevation, ascension, uplifting
Antonyms: drop, descent, dip
Sentence: After 10 years at the company, he was rewarded with a levitation to vice president.
- Ravenous (adj.)
Meaning: having a huge appetite (भूख)
Synonyms: piggish, voracious, starving
Antonyms: satisfied, full, content
Sentence: I’d been out all day and was ravenous.
- Scurry (verb)
Meaning: (of a person or small animal) move hurriedly with short quick steps. (भागना)
Synonyms: scamper, scuttle, bustle
Antonyms: crawl, creep
Sentence: Everyone scurried back to work as soon as they had finished their lunch in the cafeteria.
- Oversight (noun)
Meaning: an unintentional failure to notice or do something. (चूक)
Synonyms: mistake, error, blunder
Antonyms: accuracy, precision
Sentence: Claiming “three billion” instead of “three million” was just an oversight.
- Dilemma (noun)
Meaning: a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or more alternatives, especially equally undesirable ones. (दुविधा)
Synonyms: problem, quandary, difficulty
Sentence: The people often face the dilemma of feeding themselves or their cattle.
- Stodgy (adj.)
Meaning: causing weariness, restlessness, or lack of interest (उबाऊ)
Synonyms: boring, dull, monotonous
Antonyms: interesting, intriguing, engaging
Sentence: The sitcom was offbeat and interesting in its first season, but has since become predictable and stodgy.
- Insouciant (adj.)
Meaning: having or showing freedom from worries or trouble (निश्चिन्त)
Synonyms: untroubled, unworried, unruffled
Antonyms: serious, cautious
Sentence: Programme-makers seem irresponsibly insouciant about churning out violence.
- Confound (verb)
Meaning: cause surprise or confusion in (someone), especially by acting against their expectations. (चकित करना)
Synonyms: amaze, astonish, perplex
Sentence: The choice of Governor may confound us all.
