‘Vocabulary’
- Fulmination (noun)
Meaning: an expression of vehement protest. (विरोध)
Synonyms: vituperation, invective, criticism
Antonyms: praise, applause
Sentence: Players were told they had a right to be spared the foulmouthed fulmination of the hockey coach.
- Pernicious (adj.)
Meaning: having a harmful effect, especially in a gradual or subtle way. (हानिकारक)
Synonyms: harmful, damaging, noxious
Antonyms: benign, harmless, beneficial
Sentence: Business may be troublesome, but idleness is pernicious.
- Plenary (adj.)
Meaning: not lacking any part or member that properly belongs to it (परिपूर्ण)
Synonyms: entire, whole, complete
Antonyms: partial, incomplete
Sentence: The conference ended with a plenary debate.
- Preponderant (adj.)
Meaning: predominant in influence, number, or importance. (प्रबल)
Synonyms: dominant, predominant, prevalent
Antonyms: unwonted, insignificant
Sentence: Music does not play a very preponderant role in the school’s teaching.
- Salutary (adj.)
Meaning: (especially with reference to something unwelcome or unpleasant) producing good effects; beneficial. (लाभदायक)
Synonyms: beneficial, advantageous, profitable
Antonyms: unfavorable, disadvantageous, unprofitable
Sentence: The team’s defeat is a salutary warning before the World Cup.
- Garish (adj.)
Meaning: obtrusively bright and showy; lurid. (भड़कीला)
Synonyms: gaudy, lurid, loud
Antonyms: quiet, muted, subdued
Sentence: It’s a little too garish for my taste.
- Admonishment (noun)
Meaning: a firm warning or reprimand. (चेतावनी)
Synonyms: admonition, warning, caution
Sentence: Sometimes he gave them a severe admonishment.
- Excoriating (verb)
Meaning: to criticize harshly and usually publicly (आलोचना)
Synonyms: attacking, slamming, scolding
Antonyms: praising, commending, complimenting
Sentence: His latest novel received excoriating reviews.
- Credence (noun)
Meaning: belief in or acceptance of something as true. (विश्वास)
Synonyms: acceptance, belief, faith
Antonyms: distrust, mistrust, doubt
Sentence: I don’t give any credence to these rumors.
- Chattel (noun)
Meaning: transportable items that one owns (संपत्ति)
Synonyms: possession, belongings, stuff
Sentence: She packed up all her chattels and moved to a new state.
