‘Vocabulary’
- Caricatured (verb)
Meaning: make or give a comically or grotesquely exaggerated representation of (someone or something). (नक़ल बनाना)
Synonyms: parody, satirize, lampoon
Sentence: He caricatured the political leaders of his time.
- Caprice (noun)
Meaning: a sudden and unaccountable change of mood or behavior. (अप्रत्याशित परिवर्तन)
Synonyms: whim, vagary, fancy
Sentence: An out-of-character caprice led him to take the day off from work and go to the beach.
- Flimflam (noun)
Meaning: nonsensical or insincere talk. (बकवास)
Synonyms: balderdash, baloney, idiocy
Antonyms: reasonableness, sensibleness
Sentence: I was sick of his intellectual flimflam.
- Appended (verb)
Meaning: to join (something) to a mass, quantity, or number so as to bring about an overall increase (जुड़ा हुआ)
Synonyms: added, adjoined, annexed
Antonyms: deducted, knocked off, removed
Sentence: Footnotes have been appended to the document.
- Frailty (adj.)
Meaning: the condition of being weak and delicate. (निर्बलता)
Synonyms: infirmity, infirmness, weakness
Antonyms: robustness, strength, vigor
Sentence: Despite increasing physical frailty, he continued to write stories.
- Oust (verb)
Meaning: drive out or expel (someone) from a position or place. (बाहर निकालना)
Synonyms: expel, force out, throw out
Antonyms: accept, admit, receive
Sentence: He ousted a long-term incumbent by only 500 votes.
- Bluster (noun)
Meaning: talk in a loud, aggressive, or indignant way with little effect. (धमकी)
Synonyms: rant, thunder, boast
Antonyms: quiet, silence, calm
Sentence: I knew that it was all bluster and he wasn’t really angry with me.
- Forgo (verb)
Meaning: omit or decline to take (something pleasant or valuable); go without. (त्यागना)
Synonyms: abstain (from), forbear, give up
Antonyms: give in, submit
Sentence: I’ll forgo dessert tonight as I’m trying to lose weight
- Mooted (verb)
Meaning: raise (a question or topic) for discussion; suggest (an idea or possibility). (बहस करना)
Synonyms: raise, bring up, broach
Antonyms: censored, hushed (up), quieted
Sentence: The idea was first mooted as long ago as the 1840s.
- Inadvertence (noun)
Meaning: failure to give sufficient attention to avoiding harm or errors; negligence. (असावधानी)
Synonyms: carelessness, heedlessness, laxity
Antonyms: care, carefulness, caution
Sentence: Mistakes proceed from inadvertence.
