‘Vocabulary’

  1. Grumble (verb)

Meaning: complain about something in a bad-tempered way. (बड़बड़ाना)

Synonyms: complain, moan, groan

Antonyms: acclaim, applause, praise

Sentence: His father was grumbling that he hadn’t heard from him.

  1. Nugatory (adj.)

Meaning: of no value or importance. (तुच्छ)

Synonyms: worthless, of no value, of no importance

Antonyms: important, significant, essential

Sentence: Your efforts shall have been nugatory.

  1. Rectitude (noun)

Meaning: morally correct behavior or thinking; righteousness. (इंसाफ)

Synonyms: righteousness, goodness, virtue

Antonyms: badness, evil, immorality

Sentence: Alexander is a man of unquestioned moral rectitude.

  1. Menacing (adj.)

Meaning: suggesting the presence of danger; threatening. (खतरनाक)

Synonyms: baleful, dire, direful

Antonyms: unthreatening, harmless, nonhazardous

Sentence: At night, the dark streets become menacing.

  1. Vilification (noun)

Meaning: abusively disparaging speech or writing. (तिरस्कार करना)

Synonyms: condemnation, criticism, censure

Antonyms: acclaim, accolade, applause

Sentence: They pelted him with ridicule and vilification.

  1. Placate (verb)

Meaning:  make (someone) less angry or hostile. (तसल्ली देना)

Synonyms: pacify, calm, appease

Antonyms: anger, enrage, incense

Sentence: They attempted to placate the students with promises.

  1. Exasperate (verb)

Meaning: irritate and frustrate (someone) intensely. (चिढ़ाना)

Synonyms: infuriate, incense, anger

Antonyms: appease, conciliate, mollify

Sentence: I was exasperated by all the noise.

  1. Enervate (adj.)

Meaning: cause (someone) to feel drained of energy or vitality; weaken. (कमज़ोर)

Synonyms: exhaust, weaken, fatigue

Antonyms: strengthen, energize

Sentence: The surgery really enervated me for weeks afterwards.

  1. Convoluted (adj.)

Meaning: (especially of an argument, story, or sentence) extremely complex and difficult to follow. (जटिल)

Synonyms: complicated, complex, intricate

Antonyms: noncomplex, noncomplicated, plain

Sentence: His grammar explanations are terribly convoluted.

  1. Didactic (adj.)

Meaning: intended to teach, particularly in having moral instruction as an ulterior motive. (शिक्षाप्रद)

Synonyms: instructive, instructional, educational

Antonyms: erroneous, pernicious, misleading

Sentence: A didactic novel that set out to expose social injustice.
