‘Vocabulary’

  1. Flawed (adj.)

Meaning: blemished, damaged, or imperfect in some way. (त्रुटिपूर्ण)

Synonyms: unsound, defective, faulty

Antonyms: faultless, flawless, impeccable

Sentence: The material is flawed throughout.

  1. Impediment (noun)

Meaning: a hindrance or obstruction in doing something. (बाधा)

Synonyms: hindrance, obstruction, obstacle

Antonyms: catalyst, goad, impetus

Sentence: He was satisfied there was no legal impediment to the marriage.

  1. Fidelity (noun)

Meaning: faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support. (सत्य के प्रति निष्ठा)

Synonyms: loyalty, allegiance, obedience

Antonyms: disloyalty, faithlessness, falseness

Sentence: I had to promise fidelity to the Queen.

  1. Taciturn (adj.)

Meaning: (of a person) reserved or uncommunicative in speech; saying little. (अल्पभाषी)

Synonyms: untalkative, uncommunicative, reticent

Antonyms: blabby, chatty, talkative

Sentence: He was a quiet, almost taciturn, young man.

  1. Insidious (adj.)

Meaning: proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects. (कपटी)

Synonyms: stealthy, subtle, surreptitious

Antonyms: clarifying, elucidative, explanatory

Sentence: High-blood pressure is an insidious condition that has few symptoms.

  1. Malignant (adj.)

Meaning: having or showing a desire to cause someone pain or suffering for the sheer enjoyment of it (घातक)

Synonyms: spiteful, hostile, malevolent

Antonyms: benevolent, benign, benignant

Sentence: The process by which malignant cancer cells multiply isn’t fully understood.

  1. Juxtaposition (noun)

Meaning: the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. (निकटता)

Synonyms: contrast, proximity, closeness

Antonyms: distance, remoteness

Sentence: This juxtaposition of brutal reality and lyrical beauty runs through Park’s stories.

  1. Misconceive (verb)

Meaning: fail to understand correctly. (गलत धारणा)

Synonyms: misunderstand, misinterpret, misapprehend

Sentence: His arguments are totally misconceived.

  1. Altercate (verb)

Meaning: dispute or argue noisily and publicly. (विवाद करना)

Synonyms: argue, argufy, bicker

Antonyms: accept, agree, assent

Sentence: Don’t altercate over such trivia.

  1. Proscription (noun)

Meaning: the action of forbidding something; banning. (बहिष्कार)

Synonyms: prohibition, prohibiting, forbidding

Antonyms: allowance, permission, sufferance

Sentence: The proscription against bicycles and skateboards is intended to make the plaza a more pedestrian-friendly place.
