‘Vocabulary’
- Remorse (noun)
Meaning: deep regret or guilt for a wrong committed. (आत्मा ग्लानि)
Synonyms: contrition, deep regret, repentance
Antonyms: impenitence, remorselessness
Sentence: He seemed to feel no remorse at all.
- Indecipherable (adj.)
Meaning: not able to be read or understood. (अस्पष्ट)
Synonyms: hard to read, unreadable, indiscernible
Antonyms: decipherable, readable
Sentence: There was an indecipherable message on the answering machine.
- Tooth and Nail (adv.)
Meaning: with all power or resources being used (पूरी ताकत के साथ)
Synonyms: full blast, totally
Sentence: I’ll fight tooth and nail to win the finals
- Disenchanted (adj.)
Meaning: disappointed by someone or something previously respected or admired; disillusioned. (निराश)
Synonyms: disappointed, disillusioned, discontented
Antonyms: gratified, pleased, satisfied
Sentence: Many voters have become disenchanted with the government.
- Mortgaging (verb)
Meaning: convey (a property) to a creditor as security on a loan. (गिरवी)
Synonyms: engaging, pledging
Antonyms: reneging
Sentence: The report explains how governments are mortgaging their nations’ futures.
- Secessionism (noun)
Meaning: the act or process of a whole separating into two or more parts (अलगाव)
Synonyms: bifurcation, division, partition
Antonyms: association, aggregation, unification
Sentence: Fundamentalism and secessionism are of course a direct result of poor governance.
- Gospel (noun)
Meaning: the basic beliefs or guiding principles of a person or group (विचारधारा)
Synonyms: credo, dogma, ideology
Sentence: They continue to preach their gospel of self-reliance.
- Acculturation (noun)
Meaning: assimilation to a different culture, typically the dominant one. (संस्कृति-संक्रमण)
Synonyms: agreement, conformance, conformity
Antonyms: conflict, disagreement
Sentence: The process of acculturation may impact both social and psychological well-being.
- Bystander (noun)
Meaning: a person who is present at an event or incident but does not take part. (दर्शक)
Synonyms: onlooker, spectator, nonparticipant
Sentence: It looks like an innocent bystander was killed instead of you.
- Confuting (verb)
Meaning: prove (a person or an assertion) to be wrong. (झूठा ठहराना)
Synonyms: disprove, show/prove to be false, contradict
Antonyms: proving, validating, verifying
Sentence: Theories that will eventually be confirmed or confuted by experience.
