‘Vocabulary’
- Disheveled (adj.)
Meaning: lacking in order, neatness, and often cleanliness (बिखेरा हुआ)
Synonyms: disordered, messy, filthy
Antonyms: neat, organized, ordered
Sentence: I got my suit pressed so I wouldn’t look so disheveled for the wedding
- Tutelage (noun)
Meaning: protection of or authority over someone or something; guardianship. (संरक्षण)
Synonyms: shielding, shelter, safeguarding
Sentence: A new regime was installed under French tutelage.
- Ratifying (verb)
Meaning: sign or give formal consent to (a treaty, contract, or agreement), making it officially valid. (पुष्टि करना)
Synonyms: confirm, approve, sanction
Antonyms: declining, denying, disallowing
Sentence: Both countries were due to ratify the treaty by the end of the year.
- Guerrilla (noun)
Meaning: a member of a small independent group taking part in irregular fighting, typically against larger regular forces. (विद्रोही)
Synonyms: fighter, revolutionary, rebel
Antonyms: civilian, noncombatant
Sentence: Guerrilla groups are active in the province.
- Expounded (verb)
Meaning: present and explain (a theory or idea) systematically and in detail. (प्रस्तुत)
Synonyms: present, put forward, proffer
Sentence: He was expounding a powerful argument.
- Galled (verb)
Meaning: make (someone) feel annoyed. (परेशान होना)
Synonyms: irritate, annoy, bothered
Antonyms: delighted, gladdened, gratified
Sentence: He knew he was losing, and it galled him.
- Toggery (noun)
Meaning: covering for the human body; clothes. (कपड़ा)
Synonyms: attire, dress, cloth
Sentence: Inmates were wearing regular prison toggery.
- Meddle (verb)
Meaning: interfere in or busy oneself unduly with something that is not one’s concern. (हस्तक्षेप करना)
Synonyms: interfere, intervene, intrude
Antonyms: disregard, ignore, neglect
Sentence: I don’t want him meddling in our affairs.
- Gainsay (verb)
Meaning: deny or contradict (a fact or statement). (विरोध करना)
Synonyms: deny, dispute, disagree with
Antonyms: admit, allow, avow
Sentence: No one dared to gainsay him.
- Feign (verb)
Meaning: to present a false appearance of (ढोंग करना)
Synonyms: simulate, fakes, ham
Sentence: Some animals feign death when in danger.
