‘Vocabulary’
- Avouchment (noun)
Meaning: a solemn and often public declaration of the truth or existence of something (घोषणा)
Synonyms: declaration, assertion, claim
Antonyms: dispute, question
Sentence: Your avouchment of his good intentions means he won’t be disciplined.
- Pang (noun)
Meaning: a sudden sharp pain or painful emotion. (पीड़ा)
Synonyms: pain, sting, discomfort
Antonyms: aid, assist, comfort
Sentence: He experienced a sudden pang of conscience.
- Wrest (verb)
Meaning: to draw out by force or with effort (खींचना)
Synonyms: wrench, pull, extract
Antonyms: insert, instill
Sentence: I managed to wrest the photograph from his grasp.
- Stealthiest (adj.)
Meaning: behaving, done, or made cautiously and secretly, so as not to be seen or heard. (गुप्त)
Synonyms: furtive, secretive, clandestine
Antonyms: open, public
Sentence: Cats are among the stealthiest of stalkers.
- Evermore (adv.)
Meaning: (chiefly used for rhetorical effect or in ecclesiastical contexts) always. (हमेशा के लिये)
Synonyms: always, forever, eternally
Antonyms: never, nevermore, ne’er
Sentence: The editor’s decision is final and shall evermore remain so.
- Headlong (adv.)
Meaning: in a rush; with reckless haste. (हड़बड़ी)
Synonyms: hurried, rushed, sudden
Antonyms: deliberate, unhurried, calculated
Sentence: Those who rush headlong to join in the latest craze.
- Obduracy (noun)
Meaning: a steadfast adherence to an opinion, purpose, or course of action in spite of reason, arguments, or persuasion (हठ)
Synonyms: obdurateness, obstinacy, stubbornness
Antonyms: broad-mindedness, open-mindedness, reasonability
Sentence: His error was sheer obduracy in refusing to admit a mistake.
- Encrust (verb)
Meaning: cover (something) with a hard surface layer. (जमना)
Synonyms: coagulate, congeal, cover
Sentence: She arrived home with her knees encrusted with mud.
- Gullible (adj.)
Meaning: easily persuaded to believe something; credulous. (भोला)
Synonyms: credulous, over-trusting, easily deceived
Antonyms: cynical, mistrustful, sophisticated
Sentence: He’s so gullible he’ll believe anything.
- Solace (verb)
Meaning: give comfort or consolation to. (आश्वासन)
Synonyms: comfort, console, cheer
Antonyms: anguish, distress
Sentence: She smiled, as though solaced by the memory.
