‘Vocabulary’
- Lure (verb)
Meaning: tempt (a person or animal) to do something or to go somewhere, especially by offering some form of reward. (लुभाना)
Synonyms: tempt, entice, attract
Antonyms: alert, caution, forewarn
Sentence: The child was lured into a car but managed to escape.
- Fiscal (adj.)
Meaning: relating to government revenue, especially taxes. (राजकोषीय)
Synonyms: tax, budgetary, revenue
Antonyms: nonfinancial, non-taxable, debt
Sentence: The increase in taxation is an important fiscal policy.
- Limping (adj.)
Meaning: walking with difficulty, typically because of a damaged or stiff leg or foot. (लंगड़ा)
Synonyms: droopy, flaccid, floppy
Antonyms: inflexible, resilient, rigid
Sentence: The dog was limping slightly.
- Tidings (noun)
Meaning: news; information. (ख़बर)
Synonyms: news, information, reports
Sentence: Have you heard the glad tidings?
- Grope (verb)
Meaning: feel about or search blindly or uncertainly with the hands. (अंधे की तरह खोजना)
Synonyms: fumble, scrabble, search
Sentence: She got up and groped for her spectacles.
- Conundrum (noun)
Meaning: a confusing and difficult problem or question. (पहेली)
Synonyms: problem, difficult question, vexed question
Sentence: This is not merely a curious conundrum.
- Countenanced (verb)
Meaning: admit as acceptable or possible. (प्रत्युत्तर)
Synonyms: permit, allow, approve of
Antonyms: disapproved (of), discountenanced, disfavored
Sentence: He was reluctant to countenance the use of force.
- Deprave (verb)
Meaning: make (someone) immoral or wicked. (भ्रष्ट करना)
Synonyms: corrupt, lead astray, pervert
Antonyms: dignify, honor, ennoble
Sentence: This book would deprave and corrupt young children.
- Prelude (noun)
Meaning: an action or event serving as an introduction to something more important. (प्रस्तावना)
Synonyms: preliminary, overture, opening
Antonyms: aftermath, closing, conclusion
Sentence: Education cannot simply be a prelude to a career.
- Largesse (noun)
Meaning: generosity in bestowing money or gifts upon others. (उदारता)
Synonyms: generosity, liberality, munificence
Antonyms: cheapness, parsimony, penuriousness
Sentence: She is not noted for her largesse.
