 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Inconceivable (adj.)

Meaning: not capable of being imagined or grasped mentally; unbelievable. (समझ से बाहर)

Synonyms: beyond belief, unbelievable, extremely difficult to believe

Antonyms: believable, cogitable, conceivable

Sentence: She found the idea quite inconceivable.

  1. Transpired (verb)

Meaning: as in happened; to take place (घटित होना)

Synonyms: happen, occur, take place

Sentence: Exactly what transpired remains unknown.

  1. Utterance (noun)

Meaning: a spoken word, statement, or vocal sound. (कथन)

Synonyms: remark, comment, word

Sentence: The speaker had great powers of utterance.

  1. Writs (noun)

Meaning: a form of written command in the name of a court or other legal authority to act, or abstain from acting, in some way. (प्रादेश)

Synonyms: warrants, summonses, subpoenas

Sentence: There have been at least seven writs issued against him for late payment of bills.

  1. Rechristened (verb)

Meaning: give a new name to. (नामकरण)

Synonyms: renamed, relabelled, called

Sentence: He rechristened Zaire the Democratic Republic of Congo.

  1. Tainting (verb)

Meaning: contaminate or pollute (something). (दूषित)

Synonyms: contaminate, pollute, befouling

Antonyms: decontaminating, purifying, filtering

Sentence: Smog has long tainted the air of the city, making it difficult to breathe.

  1. Licit (adj.)

Meaning: not forbidden; lawful. (जायज)

Synonyms: legitimate, permissible, admissible

Antonyms: illegal, illegitimate, illicit

Sentence: She made some money by licit means.

  1. Gale (noun)

Meaning: a very strong wind. (आंधी)

Synonyms: storm, hurricane, windstorm

Sentence: It was blowing a gale outside.

  1. Seminal (adj.)

Meaning: (of a work, event, moment, or figure) strongly influencing later developments. (प्रभावपूर्ण)

Synonyms: influential, formative, pioneering

Antonyms: small, little, minor

Sentence: His book on social policy proved to be seminal.

  1. Comport (verb)

Meaning: accord with; agree with. (सहमत होना)

Synonyms: correspond, conform, coincide

Antonyms: contradict, differ (from), disagree (with)

Sentence: His statement did not comport with the facts.
