‘Vocabulary’
- Dialectic (noun)
Meaning: the art of investigating or discussing the truth of opinions. (द्वंद्वात्मक)
Synonyms: argumentation, contention
Sentence: This situation created the inner dialectic of American history.
- Sludge (noun)
Meaning: thick, soft, wet mud or a similar viscous mixture of liquid and solid components, especially the product of an industrial or refining process. (कीचड़)
Synonyms: mud, muck, mire
Sentence: All dumping of sludge will be banned by 1998.
- Felicitate (verb)
Meaning: to express to (someone) admiration for his or her success or good fortune (अभिनंदन करना)
Synonyms: compliment, congratulate, applaud
Antonyms: cry down, decry, deprecate
Sentence: The whole family felicitated John on his new appointment.
- Labyrinth (noun)
Meaning: a complicated irregular network of passages or paths in which it is difficult to find one’s way; a maze. (भूलभुलैया)
Synonyms: maze, warren, complex network
Sentence: We lost our way in the labyrinth of streets.
- Statute (noun)
Meaning: a written law passed by a legislative body. (क़ानून)
Synonyms: law, regulation, enactment
Sentence: Protection for the consumer is laid down by statute.
- Maraud (verb)
Meaning: roam in search of things to steal or people to attack. (लूटना)
Synonyms: plunder, go looting, go pillaging
Sentence: Marauding gangs of armed men have been looting food relief supplies.
- Subtlety (noun)
Meaning: the quality or state of being subtle. (सूक्ष्मता)
Synonyms: delicacy, delicateness, subtleness
Sentence: He argued his case with considerable subtlety.
- Amnesty (noun)
Meaning: an official pardon for people who have been convicted of political offenses. (आम माफ़ी)
Synonyms: pardon, pardoning. reprieve
Antonyms: penalty, punishment, retribution
Sentence: The government granted amnesty to all political prisoners.
- Dally (verb)
Meaning: act or move slowly. (विलंब करना)
Synonyms: dawdle, delay, loiter
Antonyms: hurry, hasten
Sentence: Don’t dally along the way! We haven’t got much time.
- Inadvertence (noun)
Meaning: failure to give sufficient attention to avoiding harm or errors; negligence. (असावधानी)
Synonyms: carelessness, heedlessness, laxity
Antonyms: care, carefulness, caution
Sentence: Mistakes proceed from inadvertence.
