 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Persuade (verb)

Meaning: To cause (someone) to agree with a belief or course of action by using arguments or earnest request (राज़ी करना)

Synonyms: convince, satisfy, bring

Antonyms: deter, discourage, dissuade

Sentence: I failed in my attempt to persuade her.

  1. Vicious (adj.)

Meaning: Extreme in degree, power, or effect (भयंकर)

Synonyms: intense, intensive, fierce

Antonyms: moderate, weak, soft

Sentence: A vicious winter storm ripped through the region

  1. Quittance (noun)

Meaning: a freeing from an obligation or responsibility (मुक्ति)

Synonyms: release, discharge, exemption

Sentence: The indentured servant obtained a quittance from his master stating he was free to leave and was no longer required to work

  1. Squalid (adj.)

Meaning: severely lacking in cleanliness (गंदा)

Synonyms: dusty, muddy, dirty

Antonyms: dusty, muddy, dirty

Sentence: Many prisons, even today, are overcrowded and squalid places.

  1. Incertitude (noun)

Meaning: a feeling or attitude that one does not know the truth, truthfulness, or trustworthiness of someone or something (अनिश्चितता)

Synonyms: doubt, skepticism, suspicion

Antonyms: belief, conviction, trust

Sentence: Some schools broke down under the stresses of policy incertitude

  1. Mutinous (adj.)

Meaning: taking part in a rebellion (विद्रोही)

Synonyms: traitorous, rebellious, revolutionary

Antonyms: loyal, constant, steadfast

Sentence: Vowed that he would someday see the mutinous crew hang

  1. Abnegate (verb)

Meaning: to give up (as a position of authority) formally (त्याग करना)

Synonyms: abdicate, deny, abandon

Antonyms: assume, claim, appropriate

Sentence: What emergency things that let persons abrogate their lives?

  1. Unfruitful (adj.)

Meaning: not able to produce fruit or offspring (निष्फल)

Synonyms: sterile, barren, fruitless

Antonyms: fruitful, fertile, productive

Sentence: They have been unfruitful in their efforts.

  1. Scrumptious (adj.)

Meaning: very pleasing to the sense of taste (स्वादिष्ट)

Synonyms: delicious, tasteful, yummy

Antonyms: distasteful, tasteless, awful

Sentence: Baked a scrumptious chocolate cake

  1. Ransack (verb)

Meaning: to look through (as a place) carefully or thoroughly in an effort to find or discover something (खोजना)

Synonyms: search, find, scour

Antonyms: hide, lose, abandon

Sentence: They ransacked the whole classroom for their basketball.
