 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Presentiment (noun)

Meaning: a feeling that something bad will happen (पूर्वाभाव)

Synonyms: feel, fear, suspicion

Sentence: He had a presentiment of disaster.

  1. Farce (noun)

Meaning: a poor, insincere, or insulting imitation of something (तमाशा)

Synonyms: parody, joke, caricature

Antonyms: tribute, homage, seriousness

Sentence: The whole procedure has become a complete farce.

  1. Desirability (noun)

Meaning: suitability for bringing about a desired result under the circumstances (वांछनीयता)

Synonyms: feasibility, advisability, desirableness

Antonyms: imprudence, unwisdom, inadvisability

Sentence: No one questions the desirability of cheaper fares.

  1. Interlude (noun)

Meaning: a break in continuity (अन्तराल)

Synonyms: interval, interruption, hiatus

Antonyms: continuation, continuity, run

Sentence: There will now be a 15-minute interlude.

Meaning: the quality or state of not being socially proper (अनौचित्य)

Synonyms: unfitness, inappropriateness, disrespect

Antonyms: propriety, correctness, decorum

Sentence: the impropriety of the song that the campers sang for the visitors was embarrassing

  1. Dabbled (verb)

Meaning: to take part in an activity in a superficial way (हाथ आजमाया)

Synonyms: delighted, entertained, played

Antonyms: worked, struggled, labored

Sentence: She dabbled in drawing and painting, but sculpture was her favorite medium.

  1. Conscription (noun)

Meaning: the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces (भरती)

Synonyms: induction, recruitment, draft

Antonyms: removal, discharge, dismissal

Meaning: having considerable extent (दूर-दराज)

Meaning: given to spending money freely or foolishly (खर्चीला)

Synonyms: wasteful, profligate, generous

Antonyms: frugal, thrifty, economical

Sentence: the prodigal child always spent her allowance the minute she got it

  1. Hitherto (adv.)

Meaning: up to this or that time (अब तक)

Synonyms: yet, heretofore, so far

Antonyms: henceforth, hereafter, thereafter

Sentence: at the talent show Kyle revealed his hitherto unknown gift for doing impressions
