 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Unforeseen (adj.)

Meaning: not anticipated or predicted. (अनपेक्षित)

Synonyms: unpredicted, unexpected, unanticipated

Antonyms: anticipated, expected, predicted

Sentence: Insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen circumstances

  1. Prying (adj.)

Meaning: excessively interested in a person’s private affairs; too inquisitive. (ताक-झाँक करना)

Synonyms: curious, nosy, inquisitive

Antonyms: disinterested, indifferent

Sentence: We do not want people prying into our affairs.

  1. Mishmash (noun)

Meaning: an unorganized collection or mixture of various things (मिश्रण)

Synonyms: jumble, medley, clutter

Sentence: The painting was just a mishmash of colors and abstract shapes as far as we could tell.

  1. Hardheaded (adj.)

Meaning: practical and realistic; not sentimental. (वास्तविक)

Synonyms: pragmatic, realistic, practical

Antonyms: visionary, unrealistic, impractical

Sentence: Jobs are scarce at the moment, so you’ve got to be hardheaded.

  1. Charlatan (noun)

Meaning: a person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud. (धोखेबाज़)

Synonyms: quack, mountebank, sham

Antonyms: professional, master, virtuoso

Sentence: He knows nothing about medicine-he’s a complete charlatan.

  1. Bandwagon (noun)

Meaning: a series of activities undertaken to achieve a goal (अभियान)

Synonyms: campaign, movement, crusade

Sentence: They tried to get everyone on the bandwagon about forming a neighborhood cleanup.

  1. Marring (verb)

Meaning: to affect slightly with something morally bad or undesirable (बिगाड़ना)

Synonyms: tainting, spoiling, staining

Antonyms: cleansing, purifying

Sentence: One scabbed sheep will mar a whole flock.

  1. Conjecture (noun)

Meaning: an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete information. (अनुमान)

Synonyms: guess, speculation, surmise

Sentence: What she said was pure conjecture.

  1. Fanciful (adj.)

Meaning: not real and existing only in the imagination (काल्पनिक)

Synonyms: fictitious, imaginary, unreal

Antonyms: real, actual, true

Sentence: Designing silicon chips to mimic human organs sounds fanciful.

  1. Rambunctious (adj.)

Meaning: noisy and lacking in restraint or discipline (उधमी)

Synonyms: boisterous, unruly, robustious

Antonyms: orderly, staid, solemn

Sentence: Their rambunctious son always got into trouble.
