 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Ornery (adj.)

Meaning: having or showing a habitually bad temper (चिड़चिड़ा)

Synonyms: irritable, angry, surly

Antonyms: amiable, friendly, sweet

Sentence: He had been in an ornery mood all day.

  1. Cavern (noun)

Meaning: a cave, or a chamber in a cave, typically a large one. (गुफा)

Synonyms: cave, grotto, tunnel

Sentence: The cavern walls echoed his cries.

  1. Denuded (adj.)

Meaning: lacking a usual or natural covering (खुला हुआ)

Synonyms: bare, exposed, uncovered

Antonyms: covered, mantled, overgrown

Sentence: Most trees are denuded of their leaves in winter.

  1. Numbing (adj.)

Meaning: causing weariness, restlessness, or lack of interest (उबाऊ)

Synonyms: boring, tiring, wearying

Antonyms: involving, interesting, absorbing

Sentence: Watching television had a numbing effect on his mind.

  1. Immaculately (adv.)

Meaning: in a perfectly clean, neat, or tidy manner. (विशुद्धता से)

Synonyms: tidily, orderly, neatly

Antonyms: sloppily, inelegantly, slovenly

Sentence: As always, he was immaculately dressed.

  1. Hitherto (adv.)

Meaning: until now or until the point in time under discussion. (अब तक)

Synonyms: yet, so far, until now

Antonyms: henceforth, hereafter, thereafter

Sentence: Hitherto he had experienced no great success in his attempt.

  1. Haphazard (adj.)

Meaning: lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern (अव्यवस्थित)

Synonyms: random, scattered, arbitrary

Antonyms: systematic, regular, orderly

Sentence: The investigation does seem haphazard.

  1. Churlish (adj.)

Meaning: rude in a mean-spirited and surly way. (अशिष्ट)

Synonyms: rude, ill-mannered, discourteous

Antonyms: genteel, civil, courteous

Sentence: It seems churlish to refuse such a generous offer.

  1. Tightfisted (adj.)

Meaning: not willing to spend or give much money; miserly. (कंजूस)

Synonyms: miserly, parsimonious, niggardly

Antonyms: charitable, munificent, openhanded

Sentence: The company is pretty tightfisted when it comes to bonuses.

  1. Untrammelled (adj.)

Meaning: not deprived of freedom of action or expression; not restricted or hampered. (बेरोक)

Synonyms: unrestricted, limitless, undefined

Antonyms: limited, finite, definite

Sentence: Self-governing schools are untrammelled by education authority rules.
