‘Vocabulary’
- Tutelary (adj.)
Meaning: serving as a protector, guardian, or patron. (रक्षा करनेवाला)
Synonyms: protector, defender, guard
Sentence: They seek the fire, the influences, the tutelary spirits.
- Interstice (noun)
Meaning: an intervening space, especially a very small one. (अन्तराल)
Synonyms: space, gap, interval
Antonyms: continuity, continuation
Sentence: The interstices between the bricks let in cold air.
- Resumption (noun)
Meaning: the action of beginning something again after a pause or interruption. (पुनरारंभ)
Synonyms: restart, recommencement, renewal
Antonyms: suspension, moratorium, abeyance
Sentence: Both countries are now hoping for a quick resumption of diplomatic relations.
- Retrofitted (verb)
Meaning: add (a component or accessory) to something that did not have it when manufactured. (पुनर्निर्मित)
Synonyms: reconstructed, reassembled, rebuilt
Antonyms: dismantled, disassembled
Sentence: They retrofitted the plane with improved seating.
- Perspicacious (adj.)
Meaning: having a ready insight into and understanding of things. (कुशाग्र बुद्धि)
Synonyms: discerning, shrewd, perceptive
Antonyms: foolish, idiotic, moronic
Sentence: He was perspicacious enough to realize that things were soon going to change.
- Puffery (noun)
Meaning: information released to the media that is designed to gain public attention or support for a person, business, or cause (प्रकाशन)
Synonyms: advertising, publicity, advertisement
Sentence: Using puffery to raise awareness of products is illegal.
- Afflict (verb)
Meaning: (of a problem or illness) cause pain or suffering to; affect or trouble. (पीड़ा देना)
Synonyms: trouble, bother, burden
Antonyms: help, assist, aid
Sentence: Famine and war still afflict mankind.
- Dissertation (noun)
Meaning: a long piece of writing about a particular subject that is done to earn an advanced degree at a university (निबंध)
Synonyms: thesis, essay, article
Sentence: Students can either do a dissertation or take part in a practical project.
- Fortuitous (adj.)
Meaning: happening by accident or chance rather than design. (आकस्मिक)
Synonyms: chance, unexpected, unanticipated
Antonyms: hapless, intentional, planned
Sentence: The similarity between the paintings may not be simply fortuitous.
- Detritus (noun)
Meaning: waste or debris of any kind. (बेकार)
Synonyms: debris, waste, rubble
Antonyms: trove, valuable
Sentence: Streets filled with rubble and detritus.
