‘Vocabulary’
- Relegate (verb)
Meaning: consign or dismiss to an inferior rank or position. (बाहर निकाल देना)
Synonyms: downgrade, lower in rank, put down
Antonyms: ascent, rise, upswing
Sentence: They aim to prevent women from being relegated to a secondary role.
- Disconcerting (adj.)
Meaning: causing one to feel unsettled. (चिंताजनक)
Synonyms: unsettling, unnerving, discomfiting
Antonyms: calming, comforting, consoling
Sentence: I found some of his personal habits rather disconcerting.
- Benighted (adj.)
Meaning: in a state of pitiful or contemptible intellectual or moral ignorance, typically owing to a lack of opportunity. (अनाड़ी)
Synonyms: unenlightened, uneducated, illiterate
Antonyms: educated, knowledgeable, literate
Sentence: They saw themselves as bringers of culture to poor benighted peoples.
- Haggle (verb)
Meaning: dispute or bargain persistently, especially over the cost of something. (सौदेबाज़ी करना)
Synonyms: barter, bargain, negotiate
Sentence: Ella taught her how to haggle with used furniture dealers.
- Nonplussed (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person) surprised and confused so much that they are unsure how to react. (भौचक)
Synonyms: confused, bewildered, bemused
Antonyms: undaunted, unfazed
Sentence: I was completely nonplussed by his sudden appearance.
- Flimsy (adj.)
Meaning: comparatively light and insubstantial; easily damaged. (कमज़ोर)
Synonyms: insubstantial, slight, light
Antonyms: sturdy, substantial
Sentence: The storm flattened the flimsy wooden huts that the villagers lived in.
- Pandemonium (noun)
Meaning: wild and noisy disorder or confusion; uproar. (विप्लव)
Synonyms: bedlam, chaos, mayhem
Antonyms: calm, hush, peace
Sentence: There was pandemonium when the news was announced.
- Spew (verb)
Meaning: expel large quantities of (something) rapidly and forcibly. (निकाल डालना)
Synonyms: emit, discharge, eject
Sentence: The drains spew millions of gallons of raw sewage into the river.
- Implore (verb)
Meaning: beg someone earnestly or desperately to do something. (प्रार्थना करना)
Synonyms: plead with, beg, entreat
Antonyms: gratify, mollify, oblige
Sentence: We implore you to leave now.
- Malfeasance (noun)
Meaning: wrongdoing, especially by a public official. (दुराचार)
Synonyms: misdoing, wrongdoing, crime
Sentence: In almost every section of his speech, malfeasance or illegal practices were mentioned.
