‘Vocabulary’

  1. Inundation (noun)

Meaning: a great flow of water or of something that overwhelms (सैलाब)

Synonyms: overflow, deluge, torrent

Antonyms: drought, dribble, drip

Sentence: The family’s shed was washed away in the last inundation.

  1. Grievous (adj.)

Meaning: (of something bad) very severe or serious. (क्षतिकर)

Synonyms: serious, severe, grave

Antonyms: gratifying, pleasing, comfortable

Sentence: The loss of his father was a grievous blow.

  1. Pretense (noun)

Meaning: an attempt to make something that is not the case appear true. (दिखावा)

Synonyms: make-believe, act, faking

Antonyms: demureness, sincerity

Sentence: I’m just astounded by you and your pretense.

  1. Fraternize (verb)

Meaning: associate or form a friendship with someone, especially when one is not supposed to. (भाईचारा)

Synonyms: associate, mix, socialize

Antonyms: dissociate, disunite, alienate

Sentence: Soldiers who fraternize with the enemy will be punished.

  1. Morsel (noun)

Meaning: a small piece or amount of food; a mouthful. (निवाला)

Synonyms: mouthful, bite, nibble

Antonyms: chunk, gob, hunk

Sentence: The prisoners ate every last morsel.

  1. Garner (verb)

Meaning: gather or collect (something, especially information or approval). (इकट्ठा करना)

Synonyms: gather, collect, accumulate

Antonyms: disintegrate, dissolve, separate

Sentence: A prisoner garnering food bit by bit and hiding it in his pillow.

  1. Cavalier (adj.)

Meaning: showing a lack of proper concern; offhand. (अभिमानपूर्ण)

Synonyms: arrogant, assumptive, bumptious

Antonyms: humble, lowly, modest

Sentence: The club’s owner showed a cavalier attitude to the licensing laws.

  1. Abnegate (verb)

Meaning: renounce or reject (something desired or valuable). (अस्वीकार करना)

Synonyms: renounce, reject, refuse

Antonyms: adhere, accept, admit

Sentence: He attempts to abnegate personal responsibility.

  1. Deliverance (noun)

Meaning: the action of being rescued or set free. (मुक्ति)

Synonyms: liberation, release, freeing

Sentence: We pray for deliverance from our sins.

  1. Multifarious (adj.)

Meaning: many and of various types. (विविध)

Synonyms: multiform, multiple, different

Antonyms: monolithic, alike, identical

Sentence: Spain is a composite of multifarious traditions and people.
