‘Vocabulary’
- Retrospective (adj.)
Meaning: looking back on or dealing with past events or situations. (पूर्वप्रभावी)
Synonyms: backdated, retroactive, backward-looking
Antonyms: silly, thoughtless
Sentence: our survey was retrospective.
- Slur (noun)
Meaning: an insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage their reputation. (कलंक)
Synonyms: insult, slight, slander
Antonyms: fame, glory, renown
Sentence: The comments were a slur on the staff.
- Penury (noun)
Meaning: extreme poverty; destitution. (दरिद्रता)
Synonyms: extreme/dire poverty, pennilessness, impecuniousness
Antonyms: opulence, richness, wealth
Sentence: He died in a state of virtual penury.
- Susceptible (adj.)
Meaning: likely or liable to be influenced or harmed by a particular thing. (अतिसंवेदनशील)
Synonyms: open to, receptive to, vulnerable to
Antonyms: insusceptible, invulnerable, unexposed
Sentence: Patients with liver disease may be susceptible to infection.
- Convoy (noun)
Meaning: a group of ships or vehicles traveling together, typically accompanied by armed troops, warships, or other vehicles for protection. (काफिले)
Synonyms: group, fleet, cavalcade
Sentence: The convoy was attacked by submarines.
- Unenviable (adj.)
Meaning: difficult, undesirable, or unpleasant. (अवांछनीय)
Synonyms: disagreeable, unpleasant, undesirable
Antonyms: charming, enchanting, fascinating
Sentence: Cooper had the unenviable job of announcing the redundancies.
- Abrasive (adj.)
Meaning: (of a person or manner) showing little concern for the feelings of others; harsh. (कठोर)
Synonyms: vitriolic, rough, harsh
Antonyms: delightful, pleasing
Sentence: Her abrasive and arrogant personal style won her few friends.
- Stagger (verb)
Meaning: walk or move unsteadily, as if about to fall. (लड़खड़ाहट)
Synonyms: lurch, walk unsteadily, stumble
Sentence: I was so tired last night that I just staggered on the stairs.
- Dither (verb)
Meaning: be indecisive. (बेचैनी)
Synonyms: hesitate, falter, waver
Antonyms: calm, composure, equanimity
Sentence: He was dithering about the election date.
- Mugged (verb)
Meaning: attack and rob (someone) in a public place. (हमला करना)
Synonyms: assault, attack, rob
Sentence: He was mugged by three men who stole his bike.
