 ‘Vocabulary’

  1. Impute (verb)

Meaning: To explain (something) as being the result of something else. (आरोप लगाना)

Synonyms: blame, ascribe, attribute

Sentence: I impute his failure to laziness.

  1. Cumbersome (adj.)

Meaning: Difficult to use or operate especially because of size, weight, or design. (बोझिल)

Synonyms: clumsy, awkward, unwieldy

Antonyms: practical, useful, functional

Sentence: A long-handled wrench that is too cumbersome for tight spots, such as under the sink.

  1. Condemnation (noun)

Meaning: An often public or formal expression of disapproval. (निंदा)

Synonyms: censure, punishment, criticism

Antonyms: endorsement, indorsement, commendation

Sentence: He is bitter in his condemnation of terrorism.

  1. Consensus (noun)

Meaning: The state of being of one opinion about something. (सर्वसम्मति)

Synonyms: agreement, unison, unanimity

Antonyms: disagreement, conflict, opposition

Sentence: He was the first to break the consensus and criticize the proposal.

  1. Subsume (verb)

Meaning: To have as part of a whole. (सम्मिलित)

Synonyms: include, contain, involve

Antonyms: exclude, leave (out), prevent

Sentence: How can subsume these items?

  1. Predicament (noun)

Meaning: A difficult, puzzling, or embarrassing situation from which there is no easy escape. (स्थिति)

Synonyms: dilemma, crisis, hole

Sentence: I suddenly found myself in an awkward predicament.

  1. Tacit (adj.)

Meaning: Understood although not put into words. (मौन सहमति)

Synonyms: unspoken, implied, implicit

Antonyms: explicit, express, obvious

Sentence: By tacit agreement, Clark’s friends all avoided any mention of his mentally ill wife.

  1. Combine (verb)

Meaning: To come together to form a single unit. (मिलाना)

Synonyms: connect, unite, fuse

Antonyms: split, separate, section

Sentence: Hydrogen and oxygen combine to form water.

  1. Mundane (adj.)

Meaning: Having to do with the practical details of regular life. (सांसारिक)

Synonyms: everyday, prosaic, usual

Antonyms: noble, lofty, abnormal

Sentence: They didn’t want to be bothered with mundane concerns like doing the dishes while on vacation.

  1. Profane (adj.)

Meaning: Not involving religion or religious matters. (अपवित्र)

Synonyms: nonreligious, irreligious, atheistic

Antonyms: religious, spiritual, divine

Sentence: It was hard to juggle the requirements of church and our more profane duties.
